Wiring Diagram help?

Switch: 5 Way Super Switch
Knobs: 1 Volume, 2 Tone
Wiring Diagram: schematic download h_2stks4_1v_2t_s5w

I recently replaced the three stock pickups from my Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster to the three Seymour Duncan pickup models listed above.

I used the wiring diagram from your site which specifies the bare+green wires soldered to the volume pot, white+red to switch lug R5 and the black wire to switch lug L6.

At present the bridge humbucker has no tone control. When ran through a distortion pedal the middle pickup exhibits a good deal of hum.

I plan on rewiring using the schematics enclosed with the pickup which has the white wire soldered to lug L6, red wired to lug R5 and black and bare soldered to the volume pot. But this diagram does not show a green wire from the bridge pickup at all.

What do I do with my green wire?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Wiring Diagram help?

Please forgive me. Just to confirm--green, black and bare wires all go to ground? Thanks again for your help!

Re: Wiring Diagram help?

Green and bare are ground wires for Duncan pups. Black is the lead wire, not ground. To get series mode in the hummer you need the red and white connected and isolated from any other wires.

When you say "soldered to the volume pot" are you meaning to the back of the pot (ground)? Black to ground and white to switch splits the pup to the slug coil only in reverse wind mode.

Re: Wiring Diagram help?

I once had a problem wiring up a super switch. I had to fix a Yamaha with Dimazio pups and Superswitch so I went to the diagrams on Dimarzio. They were worthless! Yamaha used a different switch than the ones of Dimarzio, different internal wiring. I cant remember the exact numbers for the 4 poles but lets assume that instead of being 01234 01234 01234 01234 it was 04321 04321 04321 04321.

If the diagram dont work its because it was for a different Superswitch or EP1112 or whatever, good luck.

thanks for the info. Thanks to GuitarDoc I now know that Duncans and DiMazios have different colors for their respective wirings.

Re: Wiring Diagram help?

I swapped out the Super Switch for the OEM 5 Way. I noticed a big difference right away with the 2 & 4 switch positions. It didn't have the same crispness as the coil tapped wiring. I stripped the wiring and rewired everything super clean. I still can't seem to achieve any tone differential for the bridge pup.

I cant remember the exact numbers for the 4 poles but let's assume that, instead of being 01234 01234 01234 01234, it was 04321 04321 04321 04321.

The stock five-way in my Roland G505 was like that. Compared to CRL, the poles were on the "wrong" sides of the switch, leaving the common/wiper terminals closer together than expected. The solutions are to either translate the schematic diagrams or to change to an American switch.
