Wiring diagram questions

Well, 2 questions, really.
I have 2 guitars I just can't seem to wire up correctly, maybe I'm trying to do something that can't be done...
1. Gretsch Corvette, with 2 P90s, one volume, one tone, a 3-way toggle. I can find lots of diagrams for this, but I wanted to add a series/parallel switch to this as well. (Hey, what's this extra hole in the pickguard for? I BETTER add a switch there, right?)
Stock, these have vol-vol-tone ANd the 3-way, because Gretsch has some funny wiring. THe series/parallel seems a lot more useful to me, but I can only find diagrams for push-pull pots instead of an added switch.

2. Strat with 3 HB's, 3 on/off/on switches and 1 vol 1 tone
I can find LOTS of diagrams for 1vol TWO tones, but not single tone. Can I just "ignore" one of the tones on the diagram, or is the wiring completely different? (And I never understood why Strats needed 2 tones, especially if neither of them affected the bridge pup.
I've been GOogling these all afternoon already, and can't find anything useful. Maybe you-all can help? THank you!

Re: Wiring diagram questions

1) This wiring is simple enough. The real question is whether two P90s connected in phase, in series makes a desirable sound? The consensus appears to be that it does not.

2) On a Stratocaster with two tone controls, the connections are made via the selector switch. For a Strat with a single Master Tone control, the signal reaches the tone pot via the volume pot (just like on a Telecaster).

Really? GOod to know, before I spend who knows how much time and effort to wire this up and end up hating it...

Re: Wiring diagram questions

Many P90-style pickups are supplied with single conductor + braided shield output cable. For series wiring, at least one of the pickups will need to be converted to two con + shield cable.

Consider for a moment the range of phat sounds that can be extracted from an overdriven valve amplifier and a single P90. You can probably imagine how two of them, linked in series, would be too much.

As a recent convert to the mk3 Freeway 3x3-03 selector switch, I can imagine "borrowing" the PRS Power Out-Of-Phase idea. With two P90s, this would result in a powerful, notched, sound.
