Greetings, all...
I've been all through these forums ( and half of the internet) prior to posting this. 30 years of playing, but only recently have started to nerd out. Attempting to replace the pickup on my lap steel. As unfancy as it gets, with a single pickup, volume and tone control. I ordered an Antiquity P-90.
Not sure what all I'm looking at. You have the braided covered wire, a second shorter wire soldered to that, and then 2 short black wires coming through a grommet. Can I assume that the wire inside the braided sleeve is the hot, the braided sleeve is the ground ( as is the short wire soldered to it)? What are the 2 shorties for?
I've worked with basic electronics enough to repair devices and household appliances, build custom servers from the ground up, remote field wiring, you name it. So why the hell can't I wire a pickup? Who wants to make me feel smart again?
