hello people who know more then me!!
i'm doing a frankenstrat project (isn't everyone?) and i'm a total rookie. i thought i had the wiring figured out but it's acting very odd despite what i thought was
a correct wiring scheme and i'm looking for a little help.
i'm following the SD wiring diagram for 2 humbuckers, 1 vol, push/pull coil split and 3 way toggle as linked below
https://www.seymourduncan.com/wiring-diagrams?meta_params=guitar-options,2-pickups,neck-h,bridge-h
with the following changes for the single in the neck instead of the H in the diagram. 1, the white lead from single goes to the toggle (like the black in the diagram) 2, the black gets grounded to the bottom of the volume. 3, no jumper on the bottom of the split switch and 4, bottom left point on split switch goes to ground (volume).
does that seem correct?
i have 3 odd issues... i'l explain as best i can.
issue #1. the hot wire (tip) going to the output jack hums very loudly when i touch or get near the wire. it is of course covered in rubber but when i touch the rubber casing it hums quite seriously. is this normal?
issue #2. the brand new volume pot is scratchy as hell unless i'm touching and grounding some part of the guitar. if i touch the bridge, the shielding in the cavity or anything else grounded the scratchyness completely disappears. any ideas??
issue #3. the volume doesn't completely turn all sound off. even in the "0" position some sound still gets thru. i suppose the pot could be faulty but since it's new and i've got a few other issues i'm expecting that i've goofed something up. any thoughts?
thanks very much for your time, i can upload some pics of the wiring if it would help
-jer.
