Wiring One Humbucker to a Blend Pot - Can Anyone Help?

Hi,I've got Aletrnative8 pickup which I want to to connect to a blend pot so I can control the balance between coils (standard both coils at 100% power in the middle position, with only one of the coils active at either end of the pot).
I couldnt find a diagram which shows how I'm supposed to connect the wires...I suppose white and red wires would no longer be connected, but connecetd to different places?

This image shows what I need to do but there is no info on what source A and source B wires are in this case, and what to do with the rest of the wires found on Alternative 8.

Please be aware that your wiring idea can only work if the two coils of the humbucker are interconnected in parallel.

"Standard, both coils, 100% power" would normally be taken to mean series interconnection of the coils.

In plain language, your concept cannot work.

A variable coil split that rolls off the coil nearer the bridge might prove more effective.

Thanks for your reply Funkfingers, although that's not the impression I got from various sites where they talked about Blend pots....like here

"Our unique linear-taper pots control the signal mix from two pickups or sources, panning from one source to another, with both signals full at the center detent."
http://www.stewmac.com/Pickups_and_...nd_Parts/Potentiometers/Alpha_Blend_Pots.html

failing to mention that 2 sources can only be linked up in paralel would render the whole thing meaningless,I suppose.

It's just that I cannot find the actual wire colour coding or any instruction on how it needs to be wired up

A variable coil split that rolls off the coil nearer the bridge might prove more effective.

if that's the only option to have both coils working in series, that would still be beneficial...
how would I need to connect the wires in that case?

I think I see what you mean Funkfingers - to wire up the humbucker to 2 pots as pictured there for a variable coil split that rolls off the coil nearer the bridge...okay

that's doable,thanks (if that's what you meant)

I would just like to know if anyone has a definitive answer on whether the blend pot at its indented point actually hooks up both sources in parallel,or in what way exactly?

Re: Wiring One Humbucker to a Blend Pot - Can Anyone Help?

Center detent on a blend pot should be just like middle position of a toggle switch, both pickups in parallel, full strength. As it moves off center, I believe it will gradually shunt part of one pickup's signal to ground, while the other remains at full strength. When people use one with humbuckers, they're blending two pickups each of which is a pair of coils already connected in series, the standard humbucker format. I don't think there's any way to adapt it for series connection of two coils in a single pickup.

I agree that spin/split is probably going to be your best option, as funkfingers suggested. And I doubt you'd be missing very much by not having access to the bridge coil by itself.

OK,thanks for that...so it's like a 3 way switch basically, only more difficult to understand its internal workings
