Wiring Question 3 way switch

Hi,

I am wiring a Tele as in FIG 2 in the wiring diagram below ,and would like to know which terminal is the common on the switch ....The one where the Black wire from the pickup is connected , or the one that is joined with the second terminal..
This is the schematic

The terminals to which the hot (in this case, black) wires from the pickups are connected are the Common or Wiper terminals.

Think of the terminals interconnected by the collector/output wire as numbered 1 and 2 on the Bridge PU pole and as 2 and 3 on the Neck PU pole. That way, the terminal numbers directly relate to the selector switch positions.
