Folks,
I think I know the answer to this, but I thought I would ask the collective consciousness...
I tried to wire up my Les Paul (2 humbuckers) with a push pull pot for coil split, but came across an unintentional anomaly because of my extensive soldering skills (um...not).
I wanted one switch to split both at the same time, so I wired the white/red wire from the bridge pickup to one side of the switch, and the white/red wire from the neck pickup to the other side of the switch, so they would both go to ground when I pulled the push pull up.
Well, I accidentally wired it such that the white/red wires from BOTH pickups ended up touching (damn, those switches have small soldering posts...)...when I engaged the push pull, I did indeed get single coil mode for each pickup...but when the push pull was not engaged, each pickup sounded different...more like an in-between sound, but not quite.
I thought about it for a while, and I assume since the white/red wires from each pickup were accidentally touching, I was getting the selected pickup PLUS one coil from the other pickup? Does this sound plausible? It was an easy fix to get it right, but I am curious what exactly I did by accident before I fixed it. I must admit, I kind of liked the sound of the bridge pickup plus one coil from the neck pickup (assuming that is what happened).
Thanks.
