Wiring question

The Toes

Hey folks,

I have an SHH guitar that I am modding to an SXH and want to try the wiring from the Vigier Bumblefoot model:
According to the Vigier site, these are the setting of the 5-way switch

1 Chopper
2 Chopper + Tone Zone out of phase
3 Chopper + Tone Zone
4 Tone Zone in single-coil
5 Tone Zone

A couple of questions, if I choose to not use the same pickups (thinking of going with an AT-1 instead of the Tone Zone) would this work? Also, I have never attempted anything like this so would the overall schematic be difficult and worth taking to a tech?

Thanks for the time.

Everytime you have each humbucker with 4 conductors + ground. No issues.
Just be aware of wire color schemas, that change from maker to maker (and even from model to model, sometimes).

Re: Wiring question

Necro bump, sorry guys...

But... Who can draw this schematic? Thanks in advance!

Re: Wiring question

It's pretty standard except the out of phase one - that requires a 5-way super switch because you are flipping two wires relative to the other pickup instead of just combining the hot wires.. Splits are well-documented. The other positions are normal 5-way connections.

Re: Wiring question

Are we sure this isn't just another case of the quack of two single coils in parallel being called "out of phase"?

Either way, you'll need a specialized switch like a 5WSS.

Re: Wiring question

I have 5way superswitchs aplenty, that's why I want to try this.

I know the rest is easy. I just wanna know how to add that phase reversal.

Re: Wiring question

Here you go. I used Duncan color convention instead of DiMarzio, if that's OK.

EDIT: I have the bridge screw coil open instead of shorted for the split case. If that bothers you, it can easily be remedied by reversing the wind direction of the neck pickup instead of the bridge pickup for the OOP combination. I'm happy to redo the pinout to reflect that if you like.

Gregory, you rock. I'll keep your help in mind when I post something epic in April 2018.
