I have mentioned before, on the forum, that I have a Mahogany Hardtail Strat with a trio of Lil' HBs. The Hotrail in the bridge goes to it's own Vol and then straight to the jack. I have the Lil' 59 and Ducky wired up to a 3-way Tele switch. They then share a Vol and a TBX control. Apparently I'm the only one who likes these things for their original purpose i.e. cutting treble or cutting bass. But that is another thread.
Shortly after I initial wired it up, the Duck quit working. :dammit: I tried many things. I cut some wires and re-soldered them and I flipped/flopped the Duck and the 59 because the wire on the Duck was getting short. I now had 59
Duck (m) Hotrail (b). :grumble: It still didn’t work, but I did decide that I preferred the 59 in the neck.
Next, I removed the grounding wire from the 59 and used a paper clip to cross the terminals. :scratchch This way the Duck was always on and the 59 was always off. It worked so I figured there was something wrong with the switch (some jack-leg hack probably got it too hot and melted something while soldering. Good cheap help is hard to find).
So, I bought a new switch from Allparts. Am I the only one to notice that Allparts products are somewhat short on instructions? I could see the inner workings, so with the help of a continuity tester, I was able to wire it up. There was a delay while I tried to find screws to fit the new switch. The old ones were too small and it doesn’t appear as if the new one came with any. More time was wasted trying to get the Strat knob on the Tele shaft. It’s a round hole-square peg kind of thing.
I restrung it. I love the old slotted tuners. I’ve been using the same strings throughout this whole process. I just take the tension off and slide the strings off the post, then slide them right back on.
And this time it worked! :fest7: It quacks and growls and sings; incredible sustain. And Lew, I put a brass saddle on the high E string. I know how much you want to be like me, so I thought I’d make it easier for you.
Oh, and I found that I like the Duck better in the middle position. Now everyone is happy.
