Also, does anyone know how the stock Wolfgang pickup compares to the SD 78? Do they sound about the same? Sorry to steal your thread.

From what I understand, EVH's pickups got hotter as the years went by. The 78 was based on his early tone, which was a hot PAF type tone. The Wolfgang pickups are pretty hot, especially the bridge. I've heard that the DiMarzio bridge used on his EB/MM was VERY simialar to the Tone Zone which is a very hot pickup. And from what I've heard, the Wolfgang pickups are slightly hotter. I like the Wolfgang pickups, but I've thought about replacing them with a Custom-Custom/APH1 set. We'll see how I like those in my Hamer Special FM.
Back to the original post, the 78 should fit fine as long as the holes are enlarged a tiny bit to facilitate the direct mounting. Also, from what I understand, the Custom-Custom is the closest you can get to the 78 without going custom shop.
