Wondering if I should dump my....

...Rocktron Short Timer and go with the MXR Carbon Copy instead? I like the ST, but the CC is much smaller. The CC has a pretty good rep, and I don't need super long delay times.

Though not currently on my pedalboard, I also have a Boss DD-3 and a Line 6 Echo Park. The EP is really versatile but I'm getting some clock noise through it. I haven't really played much with the Boss, but I'm amazed at the number of pros who use this pedal.

Is the Carbon Copy a viable replacement for my Short Timer?

Hey, Bill. I would think that the CC would be a great replacement. Just like with the Boss, I'm amazed by the number of CC's I see on boards, both pro and amateur.

I use three different boards depending on the amp. I have two DD3 on two of my three boards & I have never considered changing to anything else. I have a brand new. SD Deja Vu still in the box that I have never plugged in( I won it in a contest). I like my DD3 that much. If it ain't broke don't fix it

The Carbon Copy and DD-3 are very different sounding delays, so I'd focus on those two.

The Duncan Deja Vu is one of the most underrated delay pedals out there. It bridges the gap between modulated analog sounds and squeaky clean digital repeats. I'm surprised the Deja Vu isn't more widely known and used.

Re: Wondering if I should dump my....

I replaced my trusty old DD-3 with a Short Timer years ago. I think it's an awesome sounding delay.
The CC is a little dark and murky for me! If your looking for tape echo sounding analog delay,
then you might want to try the Malekko Ekko 616 MKII, amazing!

Personally I like the DD3 a bit better. I've had a DD3 going on 20 years or so now & I have NEVER had any problems with it. One (My buddy Wattage gave me....thank you Scott) I had to replace the switch, other then that I spray the pots out every once in a while & that's it. Here is what I found out about them. Technically the DD3 is an analog device read here:

The DD-3 is a 12-bit digital delay with analog feedback and mixing stage. What this means is that everything in the pedal is analog, except the part that produces the actual delay. The analog signal is split, and a portion of it is sent to the delay chip (the rest ends up at the output stage, where it is joined with the delay signal). In the delay chip, the signal is slightly crudely converted into digital form (12 bits is not quite CD-quality, folks) and delayed. The delay chip then spits out an analog signal (delayed, of course), and a portion of that signal is sent back into the delay again (this is controlled by the feedback knob). So, for each pass the signal makes, it gets dirtier and dirtier, due to the repeated conversion process.

The Boss DD-3 has been around for quite some time now, and people are starting to realize that it has changed somewhat over the years. Boss recognizes two different versions – the DD-3 and DD-3(A) – a definition that corresponds with a major change in the circuit design, where the schematic changed drastically. However, if we take a slightly more focused look at the DD-3, we find three distinctly different versions, with a fourth thrown in for good measure… But let’s start at the beginning, with the DD-2, the world’s first digital delay in compact pedal form.

I have owned a DD3 and a DD6 and IMO the Carbon Copy blows them both away. I think the MXR sounds richer and more organic especially on my short delays. I still keep the DD6 around because I use the Warp mode on a one of my tunes.
