Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I am using APTuner, an app on my phone/iPad, but also a small program on my PC. It is accurate within 1/10th of a cent, and has both meter and strobe modes. I think for a short while, at least the Apple version, is free.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I also use AP Tuner. It allows you to use a reference point to calibrate it a too, so I used a tuning fork to further it's accuracy. In my case it measured the 440 Hz as 440.22 prior to calibration.

For something more quick and dirty I use GuitarTuna on my Android phone. Gstring was great on the older phones but doesn't work on the newer Android OS's.

I really like that APTuner its exactly what i was looking for to bad the guy stopped updating the Windows version
Any suggestions on how to get the most out of it when setting up intonation ?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I have a Peterson Strobo-Stomp; it's the most accurate, along with an old '80s Peterson Guitar Tuner I have.

You could get good results with some of the Korg tuners. Of the Boss tuners, the TU-12 and the TU-2 are not accurate enough, imo...but the TU-3 should be fine.

Anybody use the Peterson app?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I usually use my korg rack tuner for it...but if not available then whatever I have handy

Well, I know the guy that makes APTuner is working on a hardware version. I still use the PC version, even if it isn't being updated...it is still amazingly accurate. I actually use the needle mode, and look at the numbers, not the needle (the numbers are more accurate than an needle can be).

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I bought a Planet Waves Tru-Strobe pedal tuner when they were being discontinued a few years back. I bought it for intonating but I usually just use the Polytune on the board. They are both 0.1+/- cent. Close enough.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I usually use the on board tuner on my GT-8. I've never noticed a problem.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

BOSS TU-3 has proven to be sufficient for my shop the last couple years. No complaints from my clients.

I think this APTuner is one the best if not the best non hardware tuners I have ever used. I actually bought a copy of Petersons StroboSoft for Windows a few years back.
I know most people feel Peterson makes the best tuners but personally I'm not a fan of strobe tuners and just never could get use to using.
Its such a great tuner app shame the dude stopped updating the PC version It really would be nice to be able to look forward to regular updates ?

The guy answers questions on his APTuner Facebook page, so you can probably ask if a new version is in the works.

I also have a tuner app on my phone, called gStrings. Seems pretty accurate, but not sure I'd set intonation with it....BUT...it is great to use when I'm guitar shopping!

Korg gt-120
I'd rather have the boss pedal tuner but this works well enough for now.

Yeah i talked the guy said he plans to update the windows version eventually sometime this year is what he said

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

APTuner is excellent, but I just use the tuner in my M13.

It's good enough for getting it 95% right and then I might use APTuner if I wanna go the extra 5%.
