Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

It looks like I’m going to be using the strobe mode on my Polytune 3.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I use instuner on my iPhone/iPad connected with a cable to the guitar. Works great and I always manage to get the intonation spot on.

I use a korg GA custom handheld tuner. Basically a handheld pitchblack.

That instuner looks great is it available for PC or Android ?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I use a TU-12 or an old Korg I have, forgot the model #

I've used "Da Tuner" app on my Android-based smart phone for quite a few years now. It works very well and is very accurate. I can tune my guitars acoustically and come up with good results. You can set the tuner to any pitch like 440 Hz standard pitch or 432 Hz concert pitch or any other pitch you desire. The best part is that it's free to download. I highly recommend it.;)

I have an older Peterson VSII desktop tuner that I use for set ups. I also have the Peterson App for my phone and iPad and a Turbo tuner but still prefer the VSII.

I use a Sonic Research ST-200 Turbo Tuner. Supposedly the ST-300 is even better, but I got this one for a steal.

TC Electronic Poly Tune Black Light in strobo mode. Also discovered a slight difference with Garage Band and Logic tuners. Checking with a wave generator Poly Tune is more accurate.

Boss TU-12H to get it "on the dot." Then ear to tweak it afterward. "Perfect" intonation based on the 12th fret sounds a bit weird on many of my guitars. I like to get it good with the tuner, then fine tune chords in the neighborhood of the 3rd to 9th fret.

APTuner is excellent, but I just use the tuner in my M13.

It's good enough for getting it 95% right and then I might use APTuner if I wanna go the extra 5%.

The Fender tuner app is the best tuner app out there.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I bought a Planet Waves Tru-Strobe pedal tuner when they were being discontinued a few years back. I bought it for intonating but I usually just use the Polytune on the board. They are both 0.1+/- cent. Close enough.

yep I got mine for something like $45, I like the tru-strobe a lot and it's the only tuner I need and it's certainly good for intonation.

or a Fender

I meant forget a Fender clip on. I use a couple different apps and have checked them against Snark, and they're great. Everything ya'll mention I have found on Android.

I use three tuners. I got this trick from a master Luthier. He uses 3 rack tuners, I use my Korg rack, Korg stomp and a cheapo Korg handheld. The rack is set for a slow sample whereas the other tuners are grabbing a fast sample. Sometime I will also use the headstock clip on as a reference.

Bonamassa swears nobody in the audience can hear the difference

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

The same tuner I happen to be using for everything else. I've never understood the reason for needing a different tuner for intonation. Variance in finger pressure is gonna give more variance than the difference between an accurate and uber-accurate tuner. Throw in equal temperament and the variables of a guitar caused by humidity changes and so forth...yeah, I just don't get the need. I use the 12th fret method, then verify it sounds good with my ears. And done.
