Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

Have several but normally use one of the little silver Korg units for intonation. Responds more quickly and is more stable in the reading so makes it MUCH easier to work with than say the Peterson or Sabins I have. Always recheck on the higher end units but so far so good on the accuracy and have only had to do some slight tweaks a couple times.

Thank you, Master. How do you feel about this guy ($12 Korg) compared to computer apps? I'm gonna show my ass, coz water is for the weak: On the phone app-never mind, I think I got it. I'm using Da Tuner like RS does, and I was going to ask what are the numbers at bottom of note for, but I got it-the 223334. Except, I have a small problem and need to be told things 57 times. That's the pattern down the frets, right? Do you even understand my blathering/at least it's not blithering?

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I never set the intonation dead on
Close is good enough for my ears

I try not to spend hours fiddling around with it

As they said
The amount of pressure on a tall feet affects it as well

Harmonic at the twelfth feet may be dead on but high action pulls it sharp when fretted

Close is ok for me

Get on with the playin

My recommendation is the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. Incredibly accurate, easy and not made in China.

IME, the Boss TU-12H and TU-2 are not accurate enough for setting intonation, though the TU-3 is. I've had better success with the little Korg CA-30 tuners than my TU-12H.

The TU-3 and TU-12 have the same accuracy. Perhaps you prefer the readout on the TU-3, i.e. there is no parallax like with the analog needle of the TU-12.

If a parallax is the view depending on your perception, I suppose it's to each his own. Like Ehdwuld said (not his words), mine-tune it, screw it, and play it.

Re: Wondering which tuner people use for setting up intonation ?

I have a pair of original (blue) Petersen Strobo Stomps that a friend gave me. They're just too big for pedalboard use any more, and I believe they had some problems with wonky jacks or switches or something. So, they stay safely at home and get used for setting intonation. I like the strobe-type tuners for that.

On my two pedalboards, I have Korg Pitch Black tuners. I never jumped on the "poly" bandwagon. I'd just a soon use a TU-3, but I'm cheap. I buy used and the Korgs seem to depreciate faster than Boss pedals do.
