Wood in ESP Horizon?

Iced Dragon

New member
Hi,

I contacted the ESP-company a while ago to find out the specs of my second-handed bought Horizon. They couldn't exactly tell when it was made but probably between '89 and '92 or wich wood was used (alder or ash). Now recently when I was swapping pups I noticed that '90 was written on the body under the bridge pup. So I guess this might be the year of construction?
Does anyone know what wood was used in the 1990 Horizons?

thanks

Re: Wood in ESP Horizon?

is yours a bolt-on, set-neck or neck thru? with a bolt-on, just unscrew the neck and check the unpainted wood (or any part with unpainted wood). also, if it has a transparent finish and there's alot of visible wood grain, its swamp ash. but i am guessing its probably alder. hope that helps.

neck-through.
and the cavity were the electronics are kept in is painted with a black substance (isolation I guess), so I can't check it there...

Re: Wood in ESP Horizon?

is it a transparent finish? if its opaque, its highly likely to be alder.

Re: Wood in ESP Horizon?

i don't think esp made any horizon with figured maple top during the 90s. what i understand is esp used alder for opaque finish, ash for see-thru color and mahogany for laminated maple top.
