Man oh man i am guitar crazy like the rest of you.... or we would not be here i guess...

At night I'm a janitor and i was working in a building that i hardly ever go to... just everyone called in sick and i was called in to cover that building... anyways the building has a new wing with a gym.... i was cleaning the change room when i turned around and was blinded by 2 Flame maple boards used on a Bench!!!!!! It had 2 non-figured boards and 2 extremely high figured maple boards for the seat, about 10 feet long each.... OMG!!!!!! Who the hell would use that for a BENCH!!!

you sir are sick just like the rest of us...lol!

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

Here's what you do. Go back and take some careful measurements. Go get some pine planks - carefully gut them to match and finish them with some really nice stain. Go back some night, remove, the boards and replace them with the pine. No one will be the wiser.

it would have to be Maple.... they are finnished clear so no big deal matching the boards.... 1 3/4 thick by 2 1/4 inchs wide... the building is only 3 years old.... so i'll most likely be gone before they tear that change room apart.... In truth, i will not risk a good paying government job to get the boards... i just can't believe they used these boards for a change room! Peoples naked butts sitting on them, but in truth no one uses the change room... It is used as a storage room since no one uses it.... the boards look odd as well because the 2 other boards that make up the seat are not figured maple... it's just the 2 back ones..

And remember to scratch the new planks to make them look old. muhahaha! I :laugh2:

how many body tops can be made?

Seriously now... If the benches were not in so much use I would ask the people responsible If they are willing to sell the bench!

I'm sure i could get a few... but they would be 4-5 piece bodies easy since they are not that wide... i think 3 inches wide.. i'm just guessing.... Seriously i woud not even think of using these boards ever... So i would not inquire about them... i just meant that i could not believe they made a bench out of them.... Whats done is done. I'd like to slap the guy that made the bench

I thought they were wider! We have some benches at school made of Ash that could easily make half a strat body! :)

It's a waste of good wood. I ve been in this forum for some months and I am already a wood freak as well!

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

Stop hurting mother nature. Save the trees... they were ment to become guitars not benches....

My gf's mom has an old armoire made of curly walnut. I 'm sure you could make at least two thin tops from the back and a top from each side.

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

My mother-in-law had her kitchen redone earlier this year and on one end of the counter, from the top to the floor is a beautiful piece of quilted wood. Granted, it's a really thin piece but every time I see it I could only imagine what it would look like as a guitar top with a dye finish. I've never seen a piece like that in a kitchen before. No idea what wood exactly.

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

i saw a guy who had a picnic table he made from "scrap" wood that was 12" wide 1" thick flame maple, it was one of the most horrible uses of the wood i can imagine. he was not a wood worker in the least and made a true pos table can looked like it was going to fall apart even though i swear he used a box of screws, then he covered it up with one of the ugliest table cloths ive ever seen

the horror...

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

i have a 120 year old maple 2x4 that i got from a friends 120 year old house. The stuff is rock hard and will make a great strat or tele neck one day

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

glad to see i'm not the only one whp sees wood in everyday objects and think it should be used in a guitar... we are all sick.... love it!!!! :)

Re: wood that should be a guitar!?!?!

I saw a "Woody" on PCH Cali, that had the most ornate quitled flame i'd ever set eyes on. And a balsa Malibu surfboard to match!... Hodad!
