Just got my SD Woody XL in the mail today and tried it out at band practice. All I can say is, wow! This is a seriously excellent acoustic pickup! I had been debating whether to spend the money and get the Mag Mic, but at $200+ it was difficult to justify given how little I play acoustic live. So I opted for the Woody instead and I'm very happy with the purchase! I just ran it straight into the vocal PA and my band mates commented that, "it actually sounds like an acoustic guitar". At 60 bucks, this is an excellent value and I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking to just get a non-permanent sound hole pickup.

i have a magmic which i love but ive given a few friends the woody xl and i think its a very nice sounding pup especially for the price!

I would have loved the mag mic but it's just too expensive for what I do. The Woody is very good for the price. I especially like the adjustable poles on the XL - I had to made a few adjustments but even very little movement of the screws makes a big difference.

I have a magmic and I can't believe how good the magnetic pick-up sounds by itself, I can imagine that the woody xl is basically the same thing. In this case, I'm sure it's brilliant!

Did you run it through a vol and tone pot?

I read some reviews that it isn't very loud and that it should go through a preamp. Or at least a boost pedal. What did you do with yours?

Just plugged directly into the PA. It's not very loud, but not quiet enough that the PA has any trouble with it.

Heh, I've got a Woody XL, if you know what I mean.

I'm using the Woody HC, and it's not very loud, and I didn't hear too much difference between it and the XL. All in all, the Woody series is a very nicely priced pickup for acoustic. Well done, SD, well done.

Wouldn't it make sense to run it through a vol (and tone) pot in the guitar so you could have some control over the vol and tone?

Umm... I'm not about to start drilling holes and installing pots in my acoustic guitar.
