WOOT! Picked-up an XTC Classic for "cheap" last night!

Re: WOOT! Picked-up an XTC Classic for "cheap" last night!

I dig the EQ it smooths out the tone, take the compressed sound out more and thickens the tone while having a nice top end. It takes a little time but its worth it. I think it works best in a serial loop, i never liked effects in the loop because it compressed the tone. The nova really works well in my Engl:) and im a picky bastard.

Good to hear man. Will have to experiment with that some. Taking this afternoon off from work to go see my kids' Christmas programs, and then heading home to spend some more quality time with the XTC. The wife is liable to get jealous at this rate! ;)

Re: WOOT! Picked-up an XTC Classic for "cheap" last night!

did he get the amp yet?

Who? The guy who's gonna buy the Shiva from me? Not yet. Supposedly sending a cashier's check any day now. But I'm not sweating it. I'm selling it to him pretty cheap ($1400 shipped in mint condition), so if he doesn't come through, I'll wait til tax return time and likely be able to get more for it on ebay.

Re: WOOT! Picked-up an XTC Classic for "cheap" last night!

Speaking of the Shiva. Still love it, but I spent this afternoon setting-up my TC Nova System through the effects loop (in parallel mode) of the XTC, and working some more on my tones. Actually, outside of the effects I mostly just flat-out ENJOYED every minute of playing -- spent mostly on the blue channel. If the Shiva is a Boy Scout, the XTC is a Marine -- Hooah! This thing is just blowing me away! After 26 years of searching, I'm finally "home". I've had some great amps (like the Shiva, H&K Triamp Mk I, Fender Twin, Marshalls, etc), but I never felt like I had arrived at a destination that could carry me through indefinitely. I always knew that something was missing, or that I was somehow just a bit short somewhere. I no longer feel that way. This is the place I've had in my mind for many years, and now I'm here and VERY happy that I'm here. Between the XTC and my new Eleven Rack, there's pretty much no tone I can't get. Time to just PLAY and ENJOY!

One thing that I thought the XTC came-up a hair short (and luckily, it didn't) -- the lack of adjustable solo volume boost. The Shiva has one, and it's very handy for setting the volume of solos (as well as adding a bit more girth and hair). Whereas the footswitchable boost on the XTC is more of a gain boost. Most amps that have boosts, seem to have gain boosts and it's usually a set amount. So I was slightly bumming that I'd be missing the volume boost on the Shiva. But with my Nova System running through the effects loop, it's got an adjustable solo boost and works PERFECTLY for the XTC. Kicks up that volume plenty loud -- even on the Red channel at max gain.

So I'm STOKED. Could not be happier. Want to get out and gig this rig now!

I'm still seeing a lot of words but not a lot of pics...

You got me. It was all a fib! LOL...

Took me a bit to get them uploaded. This was the setup as of last night. But this afternoon I moved a bunch of crap around and did some pedalboard cleanup (removed the OCD and put my Radial ABY there -- gonna be switching back and forth between the XTC and the Eleven Rack, trying to see how close I can dial-in some tones on the 11R to match the XTC).

Congrats!

Thanks. I'm pretty stoked!

The Blue Channel is so awesome. Spent a lot of time playing along with some good old ACDC, and then some Three Doors Down. This amp will clearly do anything short of full-scoop Mesa stuff. And that's what Bogner makes the Uberschall for.

No, we believed you. I would also bet that most if not all of us know exactly what an XTC classic looks like. We still needed pics though and it all is a wonderful sight. Congrats.

Re: WOOT! Picked-up an XTC Classic for "cheap" last night!

dang, that's an amp room.

Yeah... I'm trying to thin the herd... honestly!

Ultimately, I'd like to sell everything but the XTC and Marshall cab for live work (with the Traynor head being a very capable backup), and then keep the 11R, power amp, and 4X12 cab. So the Shiva will go, possibly the Bogner 2X12 cab, and the Fender Twin Reverb. Gotta make room for a big food shelving unit to go where the Twin sits now. All the cupboards in my man cave are full of canned food and such, and I want to add more (food storage). Times get tough enough... a room full of amps will be worthless.
