Worst pickups you have ever owned?

Re: Worst pickups you have ever owned?

T-Tops... interesting. I have have a set of those in an old Les Paul and never developed a bond with them. They probably aren't the worse I've ever had, but I don't play them much. I keep taking them out of that LP and then a few years later, I'll put them back in, thinking I was missing something. But no, it's just a recurring cycle I keep going through.

I have never found a P90, or variation thereof, that I can get along with.

I didn't, and still don't, care for the Texas Specials that came stock in my '96 Custom Shop Stratocaster. Could be the guitar, of course, but that pickguard lies dormant somewhere in a sea of otherwise excellent collection of parts I have lying around. The Klein S7's in there now are pure Vintage Strat Nirvana.

Another pickup to which I was recently acquainted and did NOT like, is the Pearly Gates Plus that came stock in the FMT Tele I just picked up used. Perhaps it can be a great pickup in another guitar, but I could not pull it fast enough to suit me.

I have had quite a few.....

Dimarzio Super Distortion soapbar (p-90 size)-narrow, super boring sounding, especially in the neck. Makes me cringe thinking about it!

Fender Atomic humbucker-nasal, all mids and nothing else

Jackson J-80 and J-90 pickups-lifeless and boring

Gibson T-top (1977), but that could have been due to the 100k pots that were stock in the Les Paul.

I have more but just not at the top of my head right now
