Does this amp have a complete tube circuit?
I think I might have stumbled upon a great deal.

Thing is suppossedly the owner says the volume drops then only comes back again when u turn it on and off.

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

These amps have a history of lots of problems! My buddy had one...Great clean tones and all and it is an EL34/12AX7 tube circuit but just make sure it's a good deal before you dive in too deep!

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

Are those faults easily repairable?
Or can it get real bad?
Cuz right now it already has one problem..

Thanks in advance :):)

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

Had that exact amp. Fried within a month.

Like John said..MAJA probs with that JTM line.

I'd pass unless its like 50 bucks.

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

Yeah, it's too bad they didn't design those amps better because they could have been one of the coolest Marshalls of the 90's. They have a terrible reputation for slipping out of bias, then the tubes run so hot that the heat warps the circuit board. I think they mounted the tubes right onto the PC board, rather than ceramic sockets.

I'd pass on it. It's already got issues. There's a reason he's selling it........to dump it before it fries!
Of course, if it were in perfect condition, and a player kept it serviced and biased with good tubes, it might be fine, but I wouldn't take the risk.

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

ok i have said this again and im gonna say it once more!! LOL

DO NOT GET THAT AMP!!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT GET THAT AMP!!

Seriously i had one and was my nightmare for years. Problems is an understatement!!
I agree with Joneser, it could have been one heck of an amp if they made it more quality. the problem is in the design so NO it is not fixable.

Do you want me to get into the details of the problems for ya?

Run Away! like the plague.

i got lucky and sold mine for 650 euros to a guy. i was totally honest too. but he liked it and i was more than happy to get rid of it. funny thing is that my wife asked me after i sold it if im gonna miss it. and i looked at her and said " are you nuts?!! i cant belive the guy took it!!"

Steer clear

Agreed. They were REALLY good sounding Marshall amps. Quite a bit better than the current for the time 900s AFAIC. The clean channel especially was about the best Marshall has ever produced and cranked it got a real nice classic Marshall crunch to it. Gain channel was similar to the old 2205/2210 heads, but a little warmer/less buzzy.

LOVED the tone of that amp. When it worked

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

I had a JTM60 2x12 combo for six years, used it for loads of rehearsals and gigs. It sounded great and I never had any problems with it.

I sold it after I bought my Jubilee and Tech 21 because I thought I was acquiring too many amps..... then a few months later the JMP 2204 came along. :smack: :smokin:

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

I have one and love it. But, I have modded it and am well aware of its issues.

This is one of those amps that if you get a good one, then keep it, but there are more bad ones than good ones.

Like GJ said, it already has problems, walk on by.

Re: Worth it? (JTM60)

The reputation I know those amps by is a friend of brothers whom gigs about 3 times a week and has been using one for several years. Swears by it and gets some great sounds out of it.

I'd be interested in hearing more specifically what the design flaws in them are and how folks go about coping with them.

The main design flaw in the combos (not sure if this applies to the heads) is that the tubes are mounted horizontally and immediately beneath the PCB. I've read of people installing a fan to direct the heat away from the PCB.
