I stepped out of the room for a second to put the wipers up on my car, and when I got back my A string sounded out of tune. When I go to tune it my tuner shows that I'm playing an E and A at roughly equal volume. I try to diagnose it and it goes away. Occasionally it comes back. I think it's an overtone, but it sounds really bad.

Whats up with this?

That's what I thought too, but I tried it with muting all other strings and it still happened.

How old are your strings? Funky strings sometimes exhibit weird harmonics.
