would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

after long hours of drooling over the gear i want(mesa triaxis, 2:90 power amp, petrucci's old rig :D ) i pretty much know that im never gonna get it anytime soon. so would it be better for me to just go and get a POD? i know it's versatile, and i can get a wide variety of tones form this bean shaped monster. so should i just go and get that?

also, how is it at getting mesa boogie tones? not recto's but more of the mark series?

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

Now that the Vox Valvetronix stuff has been out for awhile, you would be smarter to find a used Vox AD60 or 120 head for around $350. That way, you've got all the features of a POD or Tonelab, but can use it as a practice or gigging amp with any cab. I like the Vox stuff because it's Recto model, along with it's OD models will give you any shade of highgain you desire.....and PLENTY of gain. Plus, the feel under your fingers really does resemble a tube amp. The cleans sound better to my ears than Line 6, as well. Line 6 has better FX, though, even though the Vox one's are pretty good. Vox has a better feel under your fingers.

i saw somthing... maybe an atom amp... it was like a tube amp but you pluged a moddler into the front as a preamp... it seemed kinda cool.

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

but what about the POD?

the 2.0 is only $200 and would i be able to get the tones im looking for from it? i know id also be able to record with it too, so i guess that'd be a plus.

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

I'd go with the XT and the extra amp upgrades, takes some HD147 amps and POD-ifies them.

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

ooh

PODifies!!

doesn anyone know how they are at modeling mesa's?

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

I have a v-amp2, it goes alrite.
But I just scored a triaxis from the states that should get here in a month and a bit.

I hear the POD is alrite with those expansion packs

Hey. I can sell you my v-amp2 if you want.
hehehe

;D

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

I've got a PODxt wiht all the packs, I've only had it a little while but so far I am more than happy, plenty of high gain stuff in there, as for the mesa authenticity, I can't really say, I've not played any old mesa's.

For flexibility though, PODxt rules.

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

dont realy have much to say here moom, as you already know my opinion.
i swear by my POD. dunno if it sounds anything like a mesa, or anything like petrucci. but i do know it gets the Dudu tone out at this point - so i use it.

i seem to influence you alot in your gear choices. its pretty weird how you want an RG2620, the exact the dimarzio i have, and now even a POD!
who would have thought :D
you kickass bro ;)

I've been looking at one of them, it's an Atomic Reactor 112, a 18w 1x12 combo designed by Harry Kolbe, it's supposed to give you a flat eq but with the feel of tubes for power.

The retail for $499 in the US, haven't found one over here yet though. :blackeye:

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

the Atomic idea is excellent
but in my opinion you can get a much better effect using a good tube poweramp and going into a good flat speaker.
most guitar cabs will work great too, but the flatter the cabs own sound the better.

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

sorry dudu

but it wasn't you who influenced me!!

i've wanted an RG for a while and that model just kicked so much ass!! and of course, teh pickups too i've wanted for a while! and then the POD, you knwo what i mean. i dont have $3000 to spend on the preamp and poweramp so i guess the Pod would be fine for the moment. but when i do get the $3000, it's gonna be on!!!!!

your my hero! :laugh2:

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

well... the guitarport dual rectifier leaves to be desired... i rather use the soldano or the line6 spinal something.. mucho grande better sound

if i had the choice ATM, i'd get a podXT an amazing array of amps, cabs, mics, effects and i'll be damned if you cant get the tone you want out of it. plus you can store your presets in it (i believe) cary it to gigs and just plug it in as a preamp.. and you can use it the same way as an guitarport with a computer interface which you can mod..

it's definately worth it's money. i couldnt be happier with the port. 15 amps, 15 cabs, 40 effects, 4 mics and everything is 100% customizeable.. now.. you get three times as many amps and **** with the podXT ;)

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

In my studio I have a Marshall JCM2000 DSL50, a VHT 100CL Pitbull, a rack w/ a G-force and other goodies, and a couple 4X12 cabs...

YET, I spend about 95% using a POD XT. This is a factor of being somewhat lazy and the POD sounding good. For recording it is a no brainer. I also like the POD for practicing- if my wife complains I can plug some headphones into my computer speakers and be silent. I like my POD quite a bit.

I think the Boogie patches on the XT sound great. THe new ones in the heavy metal package are really good. I really like the Uberschall model!

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

moom, i'd like to give you a touch of perspective and encouragement 'cus i think you are a good kid with a great spirit ...

dude, you are FIFTEEN !!! :D :D

you have your WHOLE LIFE to acquire your dream rig(s) .. use this time to get tone that is inspiring yet affordable and work on your chops and simply enjoying yourself and your instrument ... sounds like a POD or some other modeler would get you a good way in that direction ...

my friendly advice to you is to get a good education that leads to a a good paying job so you can save up for your dream rig .. and you'll enjoy it 1000% more because you earned it

rock on man!
cheers

Re: would it be better if i just go and get a POD?

well i've ben with this same amp for nearly 4 years and i'd like a little variety sometimes :D
of course im always working on my chops but it soudns so much better with better tone :)
and my job will be in music, no matter what i do. i always want it to be music related, whether it be at a music store or a studio musician or gigging. and considering at this point in time, im actually considered a professional musician, it looks like im in the right direction :D

What do you believe qualifies someone to be a 'professional musician'?
