be a good idea to upgrade this guitar? It 's my first electric guitar I ever had, it's about 10 years old but if I want to improve it I think it has a lot of work. the strings' action is about 250inches high :blackeye: , it still has the stock pups in it and the intonation is cr*p
this is a "starters kit" guitar so I think the wood, fretboard and so isn't superb quality... should I invest in this guitar?

I don't see why not. Get it setup first. That should only cost you about 30-40 bucks. Not much of an investment considering how much better the thing will play and sound. See what kind of tones and enjoyment you get out of your guitar, and then think about if you want to dump more money into it.

Er, what kind of guitar was it, again?

yesterday I was trying to figure out what wood this guitar is made of...I looked everywhere on the internet.... but nothing.
could anyone tell (or guess) me with kind of wood it could be made of?

this guitar plays great except that the strings are too high and the sound isn't that great...but I ALWAYS find some cool tunes when I play it, it's like the guitar and I have a special relationship which I don't have with the other guitars :cool3:

I think if you have that feeling with it, get it to a good tech and have them do a proper set up on the guitar. They should be able to lower the action, and get it to intonate and play well.

Then I'd start worrying about getting better tones

As ARTIE is hinting, you may want to take it to the barber shop. It NEEDS a haircut, or "combing." Might I suggest that you either clip the exces string, or coil it so you don't jab that in your eyes.

I would also get it setup, or do some research online (try Mr Gearhead), and do it yourself. You will descover your instrument more intimately and that bond you share will grow through love and nooursihment!

Seriously, Without touching the guitar myself, I would say that you have a good firts guitar. Samick had been known to produce some good quality stuff. SInce the Strat has been around for ages, copies are not necessarily reinvinting the wheel. I can imagine that you will get some serious tones. If nothing else, it will be a good guitar to use for practice repairs and modifications.

I 'd better start searching the forum for how to lower action and how to set up the intonation :) so... don't be surprised if there will pop up some new threads about me asking how to do those things :smack:

Samick makes great guitars. I think I know this model. The neck is great.
To lower the strings first adjust the trussrod so that the neck is neary straight. Always slacken the strings before turning the neck adjustment screw. Screw max. 180°, tune guitar, wait some hours (over night?) and check the neck.

If that's done and the strings are still too high get a small piece of hard wood veneer, remove the neck and place the veneer between neck and neck pocket. This causes a small neck angle reducing the string height.

Unless your fingers are all thumbs there shouldn't be a luthier necessary (could cost more than your guitar)

If string height is ok good pickups will definitely much improve your Samick

I wouldn;t spend a great deal of $$ on it, but definitely get a good set up and consider new pups. It's a great looking guitar BTW.
