Would these speakers work (without exploding)?

Hey all,

When looking through speakers, the ones that really caught my eye were the Celestion Heritage speakers. I've always loved the sound of Greenbacks and G12H speakers, so these ones Made in England and that are supposed to sound much better then the stock ones made perfect sense. But the one problem I see is the G12M speaker is only 20 watts, which in a 2X12 with one of those and a G12H would only make a 40 watt cab to a 45 watt amp

So my question is simple: is the G12M conservatively rated and will it hold up without exploding in this cab? Or would it be in my better interest to get the regular Greenback thats 25 watts? Thanks!

It would be safer to use the 25 watt version if the amp is 45 watts rms. However, a JTM45 type amp usually is 30-35 watts rms and perhaps 45 peak. In that case the 20 watt rms speaker would probably be okay. Of course any speaker can be blown.

I run my 100 watt Marshall into a 90 cab all the time, no worries. I doubt you ever run your amp full out for extended periods which is what it would take to heat up your drivers. Most guitar playing has enough down time for the speakers to handle occasional peak loads.

You'll be fine.

Is the amp 45 watts and how many speakers 2 or 4 if 2 maybe get the heritage and the normal greenback if 4 you shouldnt have a problem. Any amp can blow a speaker (unless u get a 100 watt amp powering 500 watt cab) but unless u used full volume alot it should be fine (VOX AC30's are 33 watts but the alnico blue speakers r 15 watt each)

If you´re not running full blast all the time, the 5w mismatch shouldn´t cause issues.... I used a 160w bass head into a 150w cab for years....
