Would this be safe?

I'm thinking of picking up a small Vox AD15VT amp for fun and was wondering if it would be safe to use it as a preamp for another amp using the Lineout/Headphone out into the other amps input?

probably more applicable to go into another amp's return of the effects loop, to bypass the recieving amp's preamp.

Agreed.....Running from your line out into the input of your second amp will be too hot, hiss, and be noisy more than likely! You want to run into your second amp after the preamp.

Re: Would this be safe?

Thanks guys! It won't be an option since my 18 watter doen't have an FX loop.

Re: Would this be safe?

Just turn down the volume as far as possible and lower the distortion a good bit. That "may" work. I don't think it could damage the amp unless you turn it up to loud.

Re: Would this be safe?

You can still try it,but you probably won't like the outcome?

Your main issue is that it's going through a preamp stage and a low output amp stage. From what I'm aware the "headphones out" isn't an effects loop out- in other words, a signal not being pushed by something.

It might be neat- you never know. I used to use the "headphones out" of my Gibson Falcon into the front of my 50w Marshall. I didn't dig it all that much, but it didn't wreck either of my amps.

Re: Would this be safe?

Quick update, I finally got around to installing the new recitfier diodes into my 18 watter so I tried the Line out from the Vox to the input. It worked perfectly with no additional noise and sounded pretty good for what it was. I'll be sticking to the guitar-OCD-18 Watt though and using the vox strictly for practice. I also had a lot of fun running both amps from my a/b/y pedal.
