Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

Finally getting around to replacing the speaker on my dsl40c combo amp. I was wondering if a cannibus rex would work well in this amp? The speaker is 50 watt and the amp is 40. Someone told me before to try to keep the speaker at least double the amp, does that apply here?

If no-go on the c-rex any other recomendations? Looking to spend around $100 or less but would consider more if you think it's worth it.

Thanks!

I think that Eminence makes a hemp cone speaker rated at 150 watts, but I can't recall the name of it.

Thanks man! The "hempdog." I just found it. $40 more but if it's what i need, it's what i need :)

Does that seem like what is more appropriate for this amp, demanic?

Can anyone else chime in to confirm if that is more approriate for me?

I know it doesn't have metal in the description but would this speaker be able to get me yngwie-ish tones with my fender yjm pedal? I generally use this amp for neo-classical. It was a fellow fusioner who brought the c-rex to my attention.

At this point, i'm mainly thinking anything will be nice, if it drops the fizz the way it did when i tested it through a dif cab to see if the speaker was the issue (and apparently it was!)

I don't know what kind of music you're into, but a lot of players use a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback in that amp. Sweet water even sells a version with that speaker already in it.

Edit: Malmsteen uses Celestion G12T-75's in his cabs, though I find a Vintage 30 gets rid of a lot of fizz for me. I have only tried the stock speaker in the DLS40C.

Yeah, if the creamback were avail stock when i bought it (also from sweetwater) i would've gone with that.

Also, i'm getting a new amp in sept and i'm pretty sure it will be loaded with creambacks.

I'm not extremely hesitant to give a hempcone a shot because i play a lot of different styles and i'm sure i'll find something it is useful for. Just curious if it's good for the shred thing because until this point, that's what i've been using it for. Change can end up being a good thing, though. Main thing that would disapoint me though, would be if i do the swap and the damn fizzy breakup is still there. Everything i've read says it's good for dealing w/ that, though!

Bias it cooler at 30 ma! I was using a ET 65 speaker since Jan it works well, I have plenty a warmth now and the amp is 2+ years old and broken in! crazy I just went back to the 70/80 and was hoping for less bass and more mids, its brand new and its like dam it sounds so much warmer then b4! similar to the WGS speakers but theres this deep 3d tone when I play stranglehold.

Actually going to play it loud today and see how it holds up, moral of the story? bias less and give the amp good time to break in. I had my treb and pres at 3 when I got the amp now its like at 6 weird I know its seem not like the same speaker. Just get a creamback or WGS speakers

I love the tone that I get from my C-Rex. If I needed something similar, but for a larger amp, I would get the Hemp Dog.

Re: Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

I got an email back from eminence. They told me the c-rex is appropriate power for a dsl40c. Like I said, my next amp is likely to have creambacks so I'm thinking I'll go for variety. Plus the crex is half the price (and albeit a different speaker) . If I end up not getting the amp I've been eying in sept or if dislike the C-rex in the marshall, I will put it in a fender and put the a creamback in the dsl40 as some have suggested.

Re: Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

Yes, the C-Rex will be fine in a DSL40 unless you are constantly running it wide open, and even then would probably be fine. Yes, signal peaks with the amp cranked may get into the 65 - 70W range (technically it's more of a current peak, but don't want to get into that ATM), but they are just instantaneous peaks and won't hurt the speaker at all, unless again, you are running it wide open a lot of the time.

If Eminence says that it's ok, then go for it.

Re: Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

I'm pumped. I'm planning on trying to run one of my zendrive pedals through it. I've hated the way they sound through my larger marshalls, but loved them in my class5 which I sold in December. I'm very curious to see if the speaker swap has any effect on the way the amp receives this pedal. Also wondering if the vol drop at 8ohm instead of 16ohm would have any effect on the way they interact together? Anyone know if it would, hypothetically?

Thinking of going 8ohm regardless. The thing is pretty darn loud as is, looking forward to being able to play it at lower levels. Thing is very loud as is, and I took people's advice and tried cranking the thing to see if it stopped the fizz. It did not but when I plugged it into my mini jubilee cab, it did instantly.

the crex is a very efficient speaker, probably louder than whatever was in there by a good bit. id get the 16 ohm crex for that amp rather than the 8.

Re: Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

wouldn't it be louder at 16ohms though? I'm not against dropping some of the volume. Practically speaking, with my living/playing situation.

Re: Would this speaker work in my dsl40c?

as long as you are using the proper output jack for your speaker (16 ohm vs 8ohm) then there wont be any real volume difference. in a tube amp its best to match the proper impedance speaker and jack since there is a direct relationship between the speaker load and what the tube sees
