Would you ever put a JB in the neck?

for your friend, the jb is a terrible option in the neck. i had a jb in the neck of a jackson rhoads back in the day with a distortion bridge. i liked it for fat overdriven solos, but thats about it.

I have, and may do so again. I didn't find it to be muddy or overpowering. But its not the suggestion I'd give to just anybody, you have to be willing to work the pickup heights and your volume knob.

I had a Jackson RR5 from about 2006-7 which came stock with two JBs, I didn't dislike it and never swapped pickups in it but can't remember specifics about how it sounded. If you are familiar with Michael Romeo, he has always used a Tone Zone in the neck, not exactly a JB but in the ballpark so may be a point of reference if you listen to some of his music. Also, Tommy Thayer's Epiphone sigs came with JBs in both positions you could dig up some reviews, not the same as playing it but would give an idea.

The issue isn't so much whether a JB is bad in the neck or not. It's that the person asking seems to be getting bad advice from GC about the right neck pickup for the kind of music they want to play. I'm sure a JB in the neck can work in the right situation but it seems like a very bad fit for pop and Caribbean pop.

i worked at a gc for about 4 years, 20+ years ago, and i never gave any advice that i didnt actually believe to be true. i was #1 in sales for 36+ months in a row in that store, never intentionally mislead someone or pushed something that i didnt actually think was a good fit. i do understand there are plenty of gc employees that push for the sale, but im sure there are still some good ones out there

I think 20 years ago, it was a different industry. Now they cut everything so close, and people don't stay in those jobs very long.

I think someone mixed up the Jazz and JB.

It was actually a JB and Jazz pair that they were trying to sell him. But my friend insists that they were telling him to put the JB in the neck.

I need to wait 'til I hear back, because, so far, the conversation was GC>friend>my friend>me. Something may have got lost in translation.

Suggesting a JB/Jazz set is a safe suggestion and I'm sure it has made GC plenty of money.
