stylewise? not my style... Can't say if it plays better than a Paul, but it's looks are definitely more suited to jazz. A les paul will fit in just about anywhere though

Beautiful body, but that headstock has got to go....

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

Hmm....tough call. I really like the look, the headstocks are beautiful, you cats got "zero" taste sometimes. They seem nice, at least the archtops anyway. The finishes are pretty heavy which won't come into play as much on the solidbody as it does on the archtops. They are Japanese made so quality and attention to detail will be pretty high. Resale? Kind of an unknown. D'Angelico himself never made a solidbody that I know of so they are venturing into some weird territory there, plus it looks a lot like a Hagstrom Swede which if you get one of the higher end models is as beautiful guitar as there is made IMO.

What does it go for?

If I was looking for a jazzier LP style guitar I'd probably go with the new Les Paul Supreme because I imagine them being in the same ballpark price wise and well I just plain like Gibson better. Still it is pretty cool.

i wonder if the headstock is designed for pure aesthetic purposes or for adding mass to counteract the heavy body... hmm...

I'm not a huge fan of the fancy inlays. When I read the thread name, I thought you were talking about the PRS Singlecut, in which, yes... I would take one over a Les Paul :)

if someone can play one of these at a store and tell me how it was that'd be cool

I can agree with most of that!!!

I would have to say...It would depend on why I was looking for a Paul...and most importantly, It would depend on the Paul!

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

The headstocks are done like the very high end original D'Angelico guitars. Headstock design is a little different on high end Jazz guitars, they are an artform as much as they are guitars.

Again I haven't played any of the solidbodies but I have played 2 of the Jazzboxes over the last few years and they are very nice, stunning to look at for sure. If I was a better Jazz player I could tell you if they are legit players in that field. $3200 is some big money to lay out for a guitar regardless of origin but againI would still be looking hard at the LP Supreme which is a beautiful guitar.

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

Those headstocks look good on the big jazz boxes they make but not on that model...

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

The trouble is that the Les Paul is such a classic, well-balanced and familiar design. If you're copying a Les Paul you have to make some changes to avoid lawsuits, but if you go too far it's like putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa!

As others have said that headstock just doesn't look right on that guitar.

I like Les Pauls that say Gibson on the headstock. :)

 That sums up my view on the headstock.

I'll stick with the tried and tested at the moment.

looking at it .. I'd say no ..... BUT and it's a J-lo size BUTT ... playing it could change my mind ... I'm all about playing guitars before making up my mind about them ...
