Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

Beautiful guitar, but I believe it's alot more than a Gibson Les paul. The upper fret access doesn't seem as good as a LP.

I did try a guild singlecut, I loved it, but upper fret access was hindered compared to a LP.

I'd get a LP Supreme

yes. the headstock isnt a problem for me.

however, i wouldnt play rock with it, more blues or jazz stuff.

also, isnt that guitar a fortune anyway?

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

Doesn't that guitar have some minor balance problems because of the oversized headstock?

Personally, the singlecut I'm currently GASing for is the Gibson Cloud 9 59RI. It's basically a 59RI with a flame top, faded burst finishes, but it has a big acoustic chamber (no F-hole) right underneath where your forearm rests.

That or the semi-hollow Hamer Monaco. :burnout:

Did you play a Cloud 9 yet? I amvery interested inthem. I am thinking at some point my neck is just going to completely stop turning and a nice light LP would be very cool.

Yep...sounds like the Hamer Artist (hollow on bass side only) or Monoco Super Pro (hollow on both sides). Cool concept and a bit more resonant tone...like a ES-335. I love my Hamer Monoco:

Unfortunately, no. The concept does turn me on a lot though. Most of the time at gigs, I find myself switching between my Epi Sheraton and my Gibby LP Standard, so, a hollow 'Paul would make a lot of sense for me.

BTW Lew, is your Hamer more closely related (soundwise) to a 335, or a LP?

How about the Artist with the chamber only on the bass side?

Curly has an Artist...I've never played one. But the idea is: a resonant semi-hollowbody ES-335 tone on the bass side and a solid body Les Paul tone on the treble side.

My Monoco is hollow on both sides and alot like a ES-335 but, I think, more resonant and less nasal sounding. It's a single cutaway and I think that design supports the neck better and keeps it stiffer for a better tone.

The single cutaway is one reason a Les Paul sounds so much deeper and stronger and more bell-like than a similar but double cutaway solid body guitar like the Hamer Studio models.

I had two Monoco Super Pros for a while. Kept trying to decide which one I prefered but they were both identical!

So I sold one and kept the one with the best flame on top.

call me old fashioned, but IMO, no one have made a singlecut with as much style as the les paul, this ones no exception, very nice guitar, yes, but its not got the cool of an LP.

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

I'd love to have it, but I'd be so paranoid about damaging it that I'd probably just leave it in it's case as a keepsake. Too glamourous to be a rock'n'roll guitar.

Re: Would you pick this single cut over a lespaul?

I've got a Yamaha AES something or another semi-hollowbody that looks a little like that D'agelico and it's very comformtable, plays beautifully. The guitar is wide across the body, a little moreso than the less paul, and the bout is pretty big as well.
It's mostly a rhythm guitar, as the upper fret access isn't that great (good, but not great), although blues licks and laid back licks around the 7th fret sound fantastic.

EDIT: Normally I would pick that single cut over a less Paul, but I played this Olympic White Heritage Les Paul at the Austin City Limits music festival and fell in love.
