i still cannot understand how the duncan's best seller is disliked by so many.......contradiction???????
I think it's contradiction versus perception versus what folks really want but say something totally different.
People scream about wanting these super high-output pickups and then find they lack the qualities that lesser output pickups have which are such a great part of a classic known sound that were used to.
I have never gone wrong erring on the side of "more vintage" with pickup selection.
I have often gone wrong when I go for something hotter or more modern than I think I might want.
in my previous posts i stated that i already had a CUSTOM in one of my parts-0-caster...and stated that i had compared it to the JB in my PRS...
...well...due to my bad memory...the pickup is actually the CUSTOM CUSTOM.
so i have no experiece with the CUSTOM yet...until it arrives i will just have to wait it out.
i had a extensive play with the PRS/JB last night and must say i really like its lead sound...but its the chords that seem to have this "fizz out" quality to them.
i cannot wait to hear the CUSTOM.
no, i have done it, and did not like it. Haven't tried it in a PRS though. My custom 22 has the original dragon 1's and i believe that bridge pickup is similair to a custom though. However, still no on the swap, the JB has got it goin on and there's no real reason to take it out of any guitar in my opinion.
well...i took the JB out last night and installed the custom. i wanted to have a play with the JB first so i could try and tell the diffrence but i didnt have any time...
but yeah i could tell straightaway there was an improvememt in clarity to my chords. the custom still has the highs i liked about the jb but not that "certain frequency fizz" and the leads sound good to my ears to i can dial in a bit more gain on my lead channel if i want now.
so i am really happy i got the custom...ill have to have a bit more of a play tonight and maybe tweak some settings...and also give the cobra some volume.
now i have a spare jb...and g.a.s for an all mahagohny body guitar to put it in...hmmm maybe another PRS or a Les paul
