wow jazz III picks!

A ton of guys use these but I just got a set of these picks and I'm still amazed at how much of a difference they make in playing. They feel totally different than a normal pick. You don't even have to try and pluck the string with these things it just happens. The sharp point definately has a lot to do with this. Since their small it makes you play with only the tip so you don't get caught up in the strings.

Re: wow jazz III picks!

Yep, cool picks. My favorite are actually the Jazz Tortex picks. The same Jazz III shape, but they're made of the tortex material which is much less slippery than the red or black plastic the III's are made of.

Re: wow jazz III picks!

I went through a phase of loving them, now I don't touch them.

Where they made lead playing easier, I found them too small to play a lot of rhythm... and going back from one size pick to the other was disorientating. So now I stick with normal tortex :)

Re: wow jazz III picks!

Yeah i use the translucent purple dunlop picks, 2 and 3mm. They are small with a sharp tip. They really help me play faster and more accurately. Wish there were more of this type of pick out there.

Re: wow jazz III picks!

I'm addicted to those Jazz III tortex and black stiffo picks but I still like .73s for strummin. I like those Dava picks, too!

+1 :13:

Re: wow jazz III picks!

I use them for lead and rhythm. I tend to switch pick type every couple of months.

Oh wow...I actually find them to help my rhythm playing MORE than my lead playing! The pointed tip makes my picking sound clearer and tighter, as well as more accurate for some reason. If I use a standard pick, I either get caught up trying to make it sound right, or get a scratchy sound that I hate.

Need to try the Tortex Jazz III's though....

That's what I use for electric. They're called Dunlop Stubby Jazz. I use the 3mm, which are the darker purple ones.

Re: wow jazz III picks!

I used the red Jazz III for over a year and I loved them.
Now I'm totally into the purple big stubbies. They have (or I have with them) less picking noise and a better feel to the strings. I still use the reddies but prefer the stubbies.

Re: wow jazz III picks!

Ive been playing for just over 2 years and ive used the jazz 3 for almost one. Couldnt be happier. The only thing i dont like is strumming chords through the clean channel. Combination of feel/tone i guess. Sounds excellent through distortion or any OD though. Easy to control, very quick and accurate.

Normal 1mm. Tortex for me too. I have a habit of beating the **** out of my strings when playing rhythm, and the Jazz sucks for this.

Depends what type of rhythm... If we're talking trem picked metal riffs and that kinda stuff, then yeah.

But if you're talking more acoustic work, or funky kinda chords I much prefer a normal pick :)

The dava control picks are also pretty cool, but I've lost the only two I've had :smack:

Re: wow jazz III picks!

I used to use Jazz IIIs, but at some point I tried Tortex, settled on 1.14mm, and haven´t looked back since ;)

In the studio I´ll usually try a few different picks before I even think about tweaking the EQ, btw...that´s how much of a difference the pick can make :saeek:

Ah, that would explain why I like it more ;).

:D

I guessed as much :headbang:

The kind of rhythm I find the Jazz III's awkward for is this:

Not very metal :laugh2:

I agree with Zerb over the tone of a pick, it makes quite a difference especially in cleaner kinda stuff...

DSS: If you like the Jazz III's you should check out the smaller shape dunlop Jazztones, I think they're called that.. Anyway, I found them to have a nice rounded kinda tone, and the picks feel nice.

Edit: Yep, heres the url http://www.jimdunlop.com/products/picks/products/jazztones/index.html

The 205 isn't much bigger than a Jazz III, it's just a little more rounded. Well worth a try. I especially liked them for lead. :)

I either use the Big Stubby or the Stubby Triangles which are bigger ones of these... they make a real clean sound...
