I have always wanted a Starcaster guitar but the truth is every one I've seen is a POS...terrible build quality. However I never even knew there was a bass version!

I dunno if you guys caught what he was saying in the clip but Fender only has record of building 3, one of which was destroyed in a music store fire...

I dig 'em but they are typical CBS Fender...terrible!
Last one I saw had a nickle shoved in the neck pocket on BOTH SIDES to keep the neck from moving back and fourth!!!

Guys that can't afford 50's or 60's stuff use the argument that the stuff from the 70's is the "next best thing" when truth be told the reissues from Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, etc are far and away "better" guitars in terms of build quality, fit and finish and construction.
You could take a Starcaster and make a good playing guitar but at the cost of them plus all the cash you'd have to dump into it to in ways still have a half ass built guitar it's just not worth it...

Among the vintage markets, the Starcaster is usually less expensive, due to it's lack of endorsements, and if I ever find one, I'mma snatch it up.

I cant get into the wimpy tone though. Some alternative and punk could use that.
I prefer my Lakland 5 string custom thatccame witb Duncans.

Case in point. I have a Fender AVRI '75 Jazz Bass. My brother has an original '78. Mine craps all over his. In fact, even a Squier Vintage Modified craps all over the original CBS piece. At a recent open mic night, one guy whether my AVRI was active. (It ain't! It is just naturally loud.)

I don't understand why Fender doesn't simply make a better version of the Starcaster. There's an immense market for semi-hollowbodies and that's the one place where you don't see any offerings from Fender. Many guitar players like Fenders and many like ES-335s... Fender could sell a boat load of improved Starcasters.

I was just about to post this exact thing... if they gave us some decent reissue Starcasters people would devour them.
Give us one with P90's and one with Wide Range humbuckers and one with Tele pickups.
Sweet find on the bass, tho. I love weird 70's basses... would love a Grabber or a Ripper :smokin:

The market for a Starcaster is still really small despite all the internet love it gets plus it being a semi hollow it'd cost so much to build that the cost would be so high they wouldn't sell well...not to mention Fender still cant do a Wide Range bucker to save themselves...I see a reissue as a pointless myself.
