Again, you totally missed the point. If you feel so strongly about it then replace all of your wood guitars with plastic ones.
Wood in a guitar effects tone. Wood in a head doesn't effect tone. At least if it was made from plastic it could use recycled materials which would reduce the burden on our landfills and aquifers.

We shouldn't encourage the depletion of hardwoods by purchasing these amps. We can't reduce our carbon footprint if we go around cutting down forrests full of redwoods to make something as frivolous as toothpicks!

wait......

i agree with the first part, because... well... duh.... except that you preach about killing trees unless it affects your tone.

but the type of wood normally used for head cabs is either recycled wood (MDF/particle board) or other high-quantity woods that are completely renewable. the volume of heads this guy is building with exotics doesnt even come close to putting a dent in the overall consumption..... and, exotics aside, there are miles and miles of tree farms renewing everything that is cut down for production. in some cases, there are more trees NOW than there were before milling became huge.

and your statement about reducing your carbon footprint by using plastic instead of wood is just ridiculous beyond belief.

your rant is just another example of bleeding-heart emotion out-weighing actual information.

on a side note.... i strongly encourage self-reliance, recycling, using a compost, growing your own produce, and living a generally healthy lifestyle; and i hate the fact that so much recyclable crap gets tossed into landfills.

BUT they have found a way to utilize the methane gas produced by existing landfills and convert it to energy, which i thought was pretty cool.

Dude. You're collateral damage in this one.

And then they would not have a base of operations from which to stage their weekly assaults on Aceman's homestead.

I wonder if all that wood is a fire hazard? It would be a shame if it got eaten by termites.

I'm going to sell my car and start riding a bicycle made from recycled amplifier cabinets.

I'd say for trees like ebony, yeah it is important to conserve, and stop wasting the lower grades of ebony with streaks, and start looking to other alternatives. 'Ebonized' maple could be a substitute for certain cases, and nonconventional woods like oak are great. Most people that say it sounds like crap have NEVER tried an oak guitar, I have because I made one. The only other guitar I know about that is notorious in some aspect made out of oak is the original Red Special.

To be honest, I dislike what tree huggers say (but it definitely isn't a reason to dislike the person), but there is no denying over-using wood will lead to a limited supply. It is just our jobs to temporarily improvise to make sure the supply doesn't become extremely limited. There are many more "tone-woods" that could be used but aren't most likely because people are just too scared of something different considering how traditional many guitar players are. It is time to just realise "different" doesn't mean "better" or "worse" by any means. Different just means it is not what you're accustomed to.

Now, we have to remember to do good rather than feel good. They are two completely different things. Preaching about how humans kill the environment without making positive action is feeling good. Doing good would be temporarily halting the use of certain woods to ensure the supply doesn't become too low.
