Wow! What happened to Peavey?

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

  • Peavey stuff like Carvin & so many others is worthless
  • Kiesel is "prominate" with people who don't know the value of guitars & amps.
  • I see people trying to sell $2K Kiesel & Carvin stuff all the time but just because the owner was stupid enough to pay those prices doesn't mean anyone else is
  • There are whole generations of young folks that think a Chinese made Schec-turd is worth $1000 because thats what they paid.
  • You can polish a $300 turd but its still just a turd.
  • im done flushing money down the toilet on substandard gear.
  • $5000 Les pauls & $4500 tube amps are first world problems for Trust fund kids
  • "Peavey" is just a shell company for Hartleys Taxes, he's never been the cutting edge of anything but cheezy
  • I don't know any gigging semi-Pro or Pro musicians using Peavey products
  • PV type Chinese mass produced crap end up, clogging up the CL's of the world.
  • if you don't mind Mexican amps melting down have-at-it
  • EVH cheesy low budget product
  • Look at Marshall, cheap Vietnam crap.

If you don't own it, it's crap. Point taken. Thank you for your insightful contributions.

As for me, I'd still love to get my hands on a JSX! I guarantee that'll be a classic

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

I do know of one unfortunate move they made. There was an episode of "Undercover Boss" where one of the top management team did the usual undercover thing. One particular employee pointed out all the things they were doing wrong. He was getting ready to quit. He had a nice offer from another company for two or three times his current wage. At the reveal, at the end, they told him how they were going to fix all those things, give him a raise, and begged him to stay. He did. About a month after the a show aired, he was fired. Of course, his other job offer went to someone else. Even as a Peavey fan, it was a pretty ****ty thing to do.

Not sure if they're still up, but segments of that episode were on the 'Tube for awhile.

Shortly after that TV show [it is a show thats staged] PV laid off [fired] their entire Meridian work force.

On an upbeat & totally positive note [to start the day] MESA Boogie is a Great American success story with the BEST CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON THE PLANET.

Is your amplifier half full or half empty ?

I was gonna mention that episode
Just sux

But on the topic of Peavey equipment
In my travels here in the southeast
Most of the clubs had Peavey PA systems
And if the band provides their own it is a Peavey 80% of the time
They made fun of my Behringer PA. Until they saw the functionality of it

I have seen tons of Peavey amps, guitars, PAs, etc
Everything but keyboards and drum kits

It sux that they have outsourced everything now
The office in Meridian is just a warehouse where returns are sent
They used to do repairs there once and probably still do

It does. I have quite a bit of Peavey equipment, and it's all good. It's just a shame.

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

And to be fair
The Peavey PAs do have a high pitched squall when they are first turned on

Kinda distinctive
And iconic for Peavey systems

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

I didn't know about the TV show, or that they fired their workforce here. That's some serious tanking, right there. I bet the real story is even more crazy.

I can attest that for decades ive known of & have played in bands that had big 40 channel type Peavey PA's/power amps ect and some were real nice. I had a Peavey Rockmaster Pre & a 60/60 Power amp guitar rig from the 80's, it was cool for what it was but a one trick pony. I needed 12 spaces of rack gear for it to sound decent. Much more prefer an amp head w/a handle to pickup & go. Never a fan of their guitars or FX.

Their "workforce" here is literally one office that just arranges shipments from China to big box stores. They're barely even a brand anymore. Hartley retired and his son moved everything to China, negating the only reason anybody bought Peavey during their glory days -- they were affordable and made in America.

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

I know for a fact Marshall UK didn't move anything to Vietnam til old man Jim kicked off.
None of the Marshall kids wanted to run the company like their Dad.

Seems Hartley himself was the only one keeping jobs here til his son took over.

If i inherited a Million dollar company maybe i would sell too.
Hard to walk in other peoples shoes without actually doing it.

Try Depression not recession. We've been in recession since 2016.

Thank you. Not many people realize this. Stock market was going to crash October of last year before the fed started printing hundreds of billions for overnight lending. This is the same type of quantitative easing that's being carried out now to bolster the markets during covid, and it's the same last resort strategy used in 08/09

Stock market only relfects stocks, not the Economy despite what all the pundits/talking heads say on TV.

this is the problem with so many legacy companies right now. Spoiled rich kids don't want to work as hard as their cool dads did. They get given a thriving brand with a huge fan base and they take it for granted and wish they could be fashion designers or something instead. I don't blame them, I didn't go into the same line of work as my parents, but it would have been cool for these people to have passed the companies into the hands of passionate guitar and music industry people instead of just y'know. Their fail sons

In a way, like the current Dean guitars. Mostly a warehouse for China shipments, although they do have a small custom shop with a few guys.

Re: Wow! What happened to Peavey?

When I was in my 20s
I tried being just like my father

Then in my 30s I decided I didn't want to be an alcoholic

I'm just trying to outlive my father, who died at 55.

Perhaps then, it's better that they didn't.

My youngest one graduated two years ago
