Re: WTB: 20-40 watt all tube amp

dude you are in MN so I'll give you a small tip:

EMI Rentals in Minneapolis should be able to help you out, check them out. They carry Traynor tube amps which are great tube amps and they are self-biasing so you can start changing tubes without messing anything up (as long as you get the right tubes) very easily. The best part is they have a nice used selection sometimes and they will let you rent it for about $50-$80 for a full month (depending on the price of the amp) and if you decide you want to buy the amp you can apply that rental towards buying it and pay it off. no small print, no hidden fees, nothin. They are straight forward guys, I'd check em out if I were you.

I found my gem of a 40 watt Traynor YCV40 1X12 there for only $300!! What a steal, I threw some KT77's and some high gain JJ 12AX7's in it and it's already the last amp I think I'll ever buy! I love it.

You won't find ANYONE to sell you anything other than a Blackheart or Epi Valve Junior-esque combo for your price range when talkin tube amps. They are too desireable and people don't want to let them go unless the price is right.

Re: WTB: 20-40 watt all tube amp

All 8 of my amps have cost $0-$360 shipped, all have been tube, and all were in the 15-30 Watt range.

It's not really hard at all.

Re: WTB: 20-40 watt all tube amp

Have you bought any of them recently in the 30-ish watt range? It seems like a lot of tube amps took a price hike in the past two to three months. In fact a lot of gear seems to have higher asking prices these days compared to last fall...

Re: WTB: 20-40 watt all tube amp

Well I bought my 1954 Gretsch amp for $200 shipped on Super Bowl sunday, but then got offers up to $1,000 in the last 2 weeks.

I've bought 6 of the 8 in the last two years though, and they were all under $350. All used, all halfway broken, all really old. And I made money on every single one when I sold them - sometimes up to double what I paid.

Or you could try on of those Blackheart amps. JumpMarine has one and could give you the scoop!

Re: WTB: 20-40 watt all tube amp

I would take a look at the Crate V30 amps, they sound good and can be found fairly cheap.

I've got a Classic 30 that I don't use since I got a Music Man. JJ tubes, G12H30 (Avatar Hellatone) speaker, looks and sounds good. Reverb doesn't work, no idea why.

Ive seen a increase in prices now that peeps are getting their refunds. I would wait a few months if you want to see prices dip 30.00-50.00. Otherwise i think its time to sell sell sell right now for the next couple of months.
I would reccoemnd a homebrew, but youve got to know what your doing and also know a good tech. Homebrews rule , and for the price you get whats the equivalent of a 500.00-600.00 dollar amp for less than 3 bills.
Again, the builders got to be saavy, but if he is?..whooo boy, what a friggin bargain. Also, they are players amps. They will not be a good investment.
