WTB Explorer Pickups

Looking to get my Epi 58 Korina Explorer in good working order.
I play every Sunday with a P&W band but I play a lot of rhythm and don't mind something a little hotter.

I play blues rock, classic rock, etc when not playing with those guys and sometimes with those guys

I have heard:
'59s
Pearly Gates
PG neck, Custom Bridge
59 neck, custom custom bridge etc.

I am open to ideas, I have nothing in mind so to speak. I would also be open to other brands like Dimarzio or ??
Anyway let me know what you got, please!

Thanks guys!

Re: WTB Explorer Pickups

When i think explorer... i think Gibson 500t/496r. Been thinking thar fory explorer in the future.

Re: WTB Explorer Pickups

I've found the 500t to be slightly sterile in the explorer. Good pickup, but for the same money you can get something better. The jb is a personal favorite for me. My explorer has a jb with an a9 mag in it and I love it.

Re: WTB Explorer Pickups

I think I may go with the Distortion Mayhem set for mine. I'm not a fan of the stock JB, but an a9 magnet may make it better.

Re: WTB Explorer Pickups

IME, Explorers can get muddy very easily if you go with too hot a pickup. I would tend to go with a lower output pickup, and thicken/darken it up as needed, as opposed to going with a higher output pickup and trying to clean/brighten it as needed. It's much easier to make a clean and bright pickup dark and dirty than to do the opposite. Personally, I think PAF clones are the perfect Explorer pickups. Seths, PGs, '59's...YUMMY!
