Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

yes or no man...whats up??

If I wanted to pay top dollar, I could get one from any number of places. BTW..I'm sorry for the post about all fuzzfaces sounding the same..I did that post to kind of get your goat since I know your the Fuzz Phanatic.. and I knew you'd take umbrage.lol. .. Do they sound similar, sure..but not the same.

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

I do appreciate the offer, and again,I apologize for the baiting I did with the post about the Fuzzface. it won't happen agian- people really got on my azz for that, so I learned my lesson about screwing around with a respected forum member. I'll leave it at that.
I know what the prices on Mullards and Bugle Boys are on ebay, and I feel as if you are really asking top price, and no, I prefer to look for a better deal.
Now isn't the time to wax prophetic about how much I know about gear and tone, but I have some nice old gear that sounds good.
Sometime I feel you are too analytic about tone, and while I do appreciate the knowledge you have acquired, at the end pf the day, it really isnt waht you may think you know, but what gear you have that will give you the tone, or in my case t,he versatility and tone.
Its about the sound , and while I agree you need information available to be able to know what will help you achieve that sound, much of the true tone is pretty apparent, and classic, and everything else that might be less apparent or more obscure is icing on the cake, and a smaller part of the overall equation, unless you are trying to achieve a more modern sound, in which case it may help to keep up with latest technology, like the Mesa Roadking Ive been reading about, or amps like the Hiwatt Custom 50 that offer a modern less costly alternative to the classic Hiwatt sound.

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

Rectifier tubes are funny...lots of guys swear they have no real effect on the overall tone but they do have a fair bit to do with the voltage, which does effect tone.

Also, FWIW...GZ34/5AR4's are funny...a lot of the amps that use them really need them over other recs like 5Y3's or 5U4's, etc and there are thousands and thousands of fake GZ34's out there that are just relabeled junk 5Y3's and if you have an amp that needs a GZ34 (like a vintage AC30 for example) and oyu put a 5Y3 in it you are asking for trouble...

All these fakes and the damage that can be caused by them has driven the prices on the real ones pretty high...that and the fact that they are scarce and new ones just don't cut it in a lot of old amps.

Dang, scary that there's lots of fake stuff out there. Thanks for the info!

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

I'm out, I wouldn't sell you mine for $500 at this point, I'm just sick of your constant BS...

thats too bad..I was just going to offer you 500.00.

Dude, c'mon man..I'm being a good sport all over the place to try and prove I'm not such a bad guy. hey, what about 45 shipped for the Antiquity, just for you..pay me when you get it..hell..I paid 60.00.

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

I have two good, used GZ34 / 5AR4 Amperex - Great Britain made rectifiers to sell. I have tested these in my amp and voltages were spot on with a new tube. Both of these put out 416 VDC at the EL34 plates, with a 320 - 0 - 320 power supply. The print on them is in decent condition.

I really don't know what these are worth except what they are bringing on Feebay.

Accepting reasonable offers. I'd keep em but I'm in the market for a used Les Paul.

I will take pics if any interest.

well, go ahead and shoot me a price, but please don't beg me to buy them, and then throw a temper tantrum after, if I respectfully decline.

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

LOL, not sure what that means but I'm not in the habit of throwing a tantrum or a ridiculous price. I "think" they are worth $65 shipped for one or $125 for both.

They are worth more than that, true NOS versions are bringing $200-250 and more for various versions so ANOS or used but test good can be worth about twice what you are asking...

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

^I just sold a Morley ABY for 15.00 here ( I got 25 for it, it cost 10 to ship). Im sure its worth twice that. I'm also selling a speaker to someone here that retails for 275.00 and selling it for 160 shipped in as new condition.
I also offered TGWIF a pickup I paid 60 dollars here for 45 shipped. Take that for what its worth. It ain't all dollars and cents...sometimes good deals come and go,both for the seller and buyer..it can be a dynamic process that seems to work out for the best in many instances..and Ive seen these tubes for not too much more than the good deal of 65.,00 you were offering before our meddlesome buddy here threw a monkey wrench into the deal despite his insistence that they go for his asking price of top dollar..which by the way Ive noticed he sells all his stuff for here that Ive seen personally- consider the price he was asking for his Fanes that were beat up. You could easily find a much better deal on Ebay with some patience-If its so easy to get that kind of money, then why isn't he selling them ?
No sweat though, I never worry about NOT spending money. I hope you make out like a bandit. There are scads of those tubes on ebay, and contrary to what has been said, al;l you have to do is look for a seller with a good reputation and know how look out for bogus stuff- that pretty much goes for anything and everything.

Geez, I hope you are not flaming me because my price never changed, in spite of what he posted. I was waiting on you to respond to the reference information that you asked for and I sent hours ago. I will say that my integrity is priceless, so scamming or going back on my word or price agreement is not within my behavior pattern.

Re: WTB old stock 5AR4 tube

This thread is a trainwreck...

I love how there was a WTB ad placed, I replied wiht 2 or 3 offers and was then told I was asking too much...of Jerry wasn't interested a simple no thanks would have been fine...

Also of note, just becasue you are buying on a forum don't expect folks to sell you things at give away prices...the prices I offered Jerry were below market value, in one case it was about $40 less than I paid!

Another interesting note, the 2nd guy to pop up with offers was told that his prices were very low, well below market and he didn't change his prices...very cool.

Last and IMO most important...Jerry still hasn't made a purchase which proves my point that he wants an old stock Mullard or similar for the price of a new JJ.

I'm not trying to nit pick anyone, I made a fair offer to a forum member because it's the forum and because I have more old tubes than I really need.

I need to just stay out of Jerry's threads, they are never anything except stir the pot, troll threads and that will never change it's just sad...

Brother it's not you MM is a real pain in the backside fopr most forum members...he's been banned more than a few times from here and always ends up coming back, stiring up crap and making trouble.

I get trapped in his crap threads too often trying to correct BS info he spouts off with or trying to help assuming that maybe he has changed...

Well, he never changes and for some reason I never learn!

Best of luck selling your tubes, they are priced well for sure.
