WTT: EMG 81 for EMG 85

I've had my EMG 81/60 set in my Ibanez SZ for at least 2 years now, and I really like the 81 in the bridge, but I've heard a lot about the 85. I thought I would see if anyone on this forum wanted to trade so I could give it a shot.

If you want pics just pm me and I'll take some for you. However I won't be taking the pickup out of my guitar unless someone wants to trade, so the only pics I'll take will be of the front, mounted in my guitar :D sorry!

Just to clarify, I'm talking about trading only the pickup itself; not any of the pots, screws, battery clip or the jack that come with it. The Quik-Connect system should make it a simple switch.

The 81 is in great condition, and works flawlessly.

Thanks!

bump...

I forgot to mention, but I assumed you would assume that we would each pay our own shipping costs.

Anyone?

I have a like new quick connect 85 that i may trade you?
what does the 81 sound like?
the 85 is nice and beefy with a tone of output but i need a little more crunch and a little less output?
i heard the 85 has more output than the 81

Re: WTT: EMG 81 for EMG 85

From the EMG site: "Although the EMG-85 has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different." So some people say the output is actually similar.

About the 81: "The EMG-81 is a high output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you're playing power rock and roll, or overdriving your amp, there's a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing."

I find the 81 to be pretty crunchy and it can sustain pretty well. There isn't a single time that I can't sit with a note and just let it ring. It also has great definition with chords and palm muting. Honestly, everyone says the 85 is beefier than the 81. It's because of its emphasis on the low-mid frequencies, whereas the 81 is more of a highs and high-mid pickup. The 81 should give you more crunch though, I would think.
