I just picked up the Xotic EP Booster- which is supposed to be the preamp of an Echoplex, used by EVH, Page, and many others...

I was not at all impressed by the Youtube videos, but with so many people raving about it, I figured I'd give it a try.

OMG, it's unbelievable. It basically takes your tone and makes it better, adding a bit of chiminess, clarity, with little added noise. I'm using it into an EVH 5150 III 50 watt, which is a gain monster, so all I do is keep the level on the pedal turned almost off, but even then it still has a slight 3 db boost without adding noise, and just adds a fatness, natural chiminess to your tone- it's basically a pedal to keep on all times. I love it, and I just plugged it in, I didn't fool around with the internal dip switches yet.

Well.... that's what I've always said about this little pedal. It's just the cherry of your pie.
Makes your natural sound to sound beatifuller and, there is no way to describe what it does. It just makes your rig to sound better.
I'm running it at the very beginning of my pedal chain, after the compressor (to avoid increase the floor noise in the input of the compressor).
I usually use it with the knob between the min and 9 o'clock and then, I roll back the amp's gain just a bit.

I know of some people using 2 of them...one on all of the time and the other set for a solo boost!

Ooooooo that sounds interesting... Are they using single coils? Cause I imagine it would be too much with him buckets and my 5150 III

The Xotic EP Booster is awesome. I have tried it at either end of my pedal chain - in front to boost signal into other pedals, or at the tail end to goose the preamp. I've even used it with a guitar synth pedal to improve the tracking. Super handy to have clean gain on tap in a convenient package. It is one of my most frequently used pedals.

I don't leave mine on all the time, but when you're already turned up to 10 and you need just a little more...
