XXX clips - something different

Wattage

High Voltologist
These short clips were done to show a little different side of the XXX. Did them quick this AM more for Stevie Ray since he asked for some bluesier stuff, hope this gives some indication. I am a mutt playing blues stuff, I love it but I am more of a rocker with some punk blood. These were done with my Rat Fink Strat with a CC bridge full or split and then my LP Special with a Custom P-90 bridge and Vintage neck, bridge alone and mixed.

Blue Thing

Guess?

Hook

Hot Rod Lincoln

Tasty

Re: XXX clips - something different

I really like "Guess?", "Hook", and "Tasty". Those were so cool! Do you have a band?

Re: XXX clips - something different

wattage... Thank you SOOOOOO much. You rock. I actually am impressed with the XXX. Those are some pretty good tones (at least for my tastes). LOVED the clips. You did exactly wat i was lookin for, and now all i need to do is test it out myself. I appreciate this soo much man, thank you thank you thank you.

Good clips, love your playing, im liking the tones outta that sucker (ive got a bunch of clips of that amp now including yours)

DO NOT delete this post

its good for future reference :)

i think this XXX may be right up my ally i gotta try it myself soon.

Re: XXX clips - something different

Glad it helped as soon as I figure out a few Death riffs, I'll post some real heavy stuff.

Those clips were right into the PC with an SM57, no mic-pre just the soundcard. They're 192k Mp3's.

Biu - thanks, glad you liked them. Guess? is actually an old TV show theme song, I was wondering if anyone could guess what it is. Tasty is an old tune by a band called the Good Rats - the greatest band in the USA that never made it - I am sure you could find their stuff if you like that. Great guitar players and a phenomenal songwriter. I do have a band but since we are the kings of chaos and dischord we don't get much done anymore.

Re: XXX clips - something different

Oh yes, now that is morning i wanted to ask u a couple of questions.

Which channels/settings/pickups did you use for each clip? Any pedals involved? Were you using your EL34 tubes?

Oh, and for the heavy clips, could try to get some of that 80s metal kinda marshall hot rod feel in one of the clips? Ive heard a few and apparently the "Crunch" channel seems to have that characteristic. Sorry if this is asking too much its just that I dont have time to get over to a guitar center or any guitar shop any time soon and I'd like to take my time deciding what amp to get...

Thanks again

oh yea, and is it true that the XXX doesnt have a gain knob for the clean channel?

Re: XXX clips - something different

tasty clips. thanks for the bluesy thing with the xxx.

really liked the hot rod linkin clip, reminded me of some of the humbler stuff...

(p.s: i havent forgoten about the cd's.....)

Re: XXX clips - something different

Blue Thing - Strat clean for rhythm, crunch for lead

Guess? - LP Special bridge crunch

Hook - LPS crunch and clean

Hot Rod Lincoln - Strat clean

Tasty - strat clean, split

EL-34's, couldn't guess at most of the settings but the gain never made it up past about 11 O'clock on the crunch. The volume on the clean was anywhere from 11 to 4 o'clock (~5 being full), tone settings were all over the place and I didn't keep track but I don't think anything was pegged at any point. The clean does not have not have a gain control only a volume, I can't see why the clean channel would need it really.

X - It is HOT ROD LINCOLN by Charlie Ryan & The Livingston Brothers and I am sure Danny played it a few times.

Gain never made it past 11 O'clock on the crunch? That amp has some MASSIVE distortion levels, huh? Crunch at max and then ULTRA at max... Talk about major headroom

Anyway, I am quite impressed with the capabilities of the Triple XXX. Very versatile, i applaud Peavey. Price is great as well.

Right now, it is a fight between a Marshall DSL, Peavey Triple XXX, and Fender Hot Rod. All close for me. I liked the DSL lots, Peavey has a versatility and tone that would potentially suit me great, and Fender Hot Rod could be anything from a clean-metal amp... With pedals, that is. I don't really trust pedals, I am afraid they will sound harsh, fake, or transitory, that is why the Triple XXX and DSL are ahead of the Hot Rod for me.

Thanks

Re: XXX clips - something different

Man, no matter what gear you play through, you have lots of tone in your fingers bro.

The Good Rats rock!

Re: XXX clips - something different

:oo I'm blushing, thanks guys.

You know I've really been struggling with my sounds lately so that was cool to hear. I never took good care of my ear(s) (I've been deaf in one ear since childhood) and I think that's contributing a bit to the problem but everything sounds buzzy to me lately. Putting the A2P in my Standard has really opened my head up again to hearing more of the guitar and less of the pickup if that makes sense. Actually it started when I put my lefty Strat together with a set of Custom 69's from Fender. Fairly low output but great sound, I have to tweak the layout of the knobs/switch a bit and I'll be using that a lot. I started to hear things I never really listened to or for before and I feel like a novice again, not so bad but a bit frustrating to say the least. It didn't help that I got to run some real PAFs in a sweet old LP for a while, that was tonal nirvana, how do you recover? Nothing quite sounds the same, just grabbed an Antiquity to try in my Standard as well, we'll see how that compares.

Stevie Ray all of those are great amps I doubt you'd be disappointed with any of them. I never have been a big fan of any amp company in particular and I really don't have too many prejudices about what it says on the front so all I can recommend is get what makes your ears happiest.
