Yamaha BB bass with a musicman pickup?

Hey!

I'm about to make frankenstein my yamaha BB414 bass. I'm thinking about adding a basslines SMB-4a pickup to the bridge position (previosly a J pup) and replacing the neck P pickup with a basslines SPB-2.

The problem is the tone circuits. The bass is passive, and I'd like to have the tone circuits something like a musicman bass has, but it should also include pickup blend or separate volumes for the both pickups. How should I proceed? I'm kinda new to this modification thing so any help and suggestions would really be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

welcome to the forum!!

ive made a few basses with the smb4a pup along with a spb3, im sure the spb2 would work fine as well. on all but one i put the stc 3m3 preamp in with great results. how many holes do you have for controls?

Re: Yamaha BB bass with a musicman pickup?

I have only three holes for the knobs, but the woodwork isn't a problem. I've actually started shaping the new cavity that would fit the active components, and making a few more holes isn't a problem. It'll probably end up looking pretty horrible, but it don't matter as long as I get a decent sound out of it.

What kind of circuits have you used on your basses? Is it somehow possible the incorporate the pickup blend or two volumes to a basslines MM style tone circuit?

ive never done two volumes but i usually do a master volume with blend or a three way switch.

the preamp i use needs three holes. volume (pull slap circut), mids, and treble and bass on a stacked concentric pot. so from the pups to the blend the to the preamp and you are all set
