Hey guys, there's an Acoustic Magicstomp for sell over here and I need to know if i'll download all of the presents on the Magicstomp site to it- would that essentially make it identical to the standard Magicstomp? The most important presents for me are the AH ones, since they're the reason i'm buying the unit.

Are there any physical differences between the two units?

Also, what is the difference between the Magicstomp and Magicstomp II?
All of the ones i've seen looked exactly the same.

Thanks!

I am not sure on the Acoustic Stomp vs. Magicstomp.

The Magicstomp vs. the Magicstomp II is really the ability to get to the detailed parameters without USB and software, on the II there is a button sequence to do everything from the interface of the unit itself....and I think the II has a headphone jack?

Re: Yamaha Magicstomp- A Few Questions

As far as I know, the 3 magicstomps (acoustic, bass, and guitar) are all identical in hardware.
So all you have to do is flash them with the right firmware. This is different from just loading presets. The firmware is all available online.

The mk1 and the mk2 are also the same in hardware except for the headphone jack.
The mk1 can be flashed with the mk2 firmware to make it an mk2.

I had 2 magicstomps and I used them extensively and gigged with them for a couple of years.

Re: Yamaha Magicstomp- A Few Questions

Sorry I didn't catch your PM sooner, but it looks like you got your answer.

There is a lurking hassle with the Yamaha MIDI/USB driver screwing up other stuff on your computer and you can't uninstall it -- at least I was never able to -- and programming the Magicstomp is essentially impossible without interfacing to the editing software (which could be a lot better).

Good luck with this. I was never able to use the Magicstomp due to the driver and software hassles and had to install the OS to get the conflict-causing driver off the machine. Yamaha customer support was useless.

Threw it in the closet and haven't seen it since.

Sad. It had lots of potential.

Re: Yamaha Magicstomp- A Few Questions

Thanks for the reply Bezmotivnik. I mainly want one for the Holdsworth patches, probably gonna have just a delay patch on all the time.

Re: Yamaha Magicstomp- A Few Questions

The MS-II includes all three previous units, (acoustic, bass, and guitar), plus you can now do all editing from the front panel without the need to connect a computer. Its tedious, but you can do it in a pinch.

Hey LC. I haven't forgotten. I just haven't had a chance to reconnect mine. I'll try to get those presets before the new year.
