I am a "Semi-hollow freak" . . . mmmmmmm, i'm sure that did not sound the way i wanted too ?

Does anyone own/seen/played one of these Jap. 335-style, guitars w. THREE P90's ?

I love semi's, and i hate the stupidly over-priced 335's ptice-tags from Gibson !

I love P90's, BUT, i do not know how this guitar sound !

Does any fellow forumite play one of these beauties ?

Oh, and just as important !
Can you guys recommend some spesiffic tracks to listen too, that you know this guitar was used on !!!

Like i said, this looks like a great guitar, and would be fantastic to use between all the "335-or-nothing-blokes" !
Also looks like a great alternative on the 335-theme !

. . . any info will be great !!!

Thanx to all !

i got a friend that bought one of these, and he told me it's a wonderfull guitar.
he say that is the only hollowbody on earth that you can play with high gain without having feedbacks!!!

Looks cool save for the F-holes. Those just ruin it for me...

Never tried it tough. Sorry.

Looks cool, Yamahas are all pretty awesome. I like how the colour is "blood red" too hahaha.

Hell yes that's a badass guitar. Despite the kudos they've been getting from guitar magazines and pros I don't Yamaha gets enough credit from the average player. They're a really great company that makes some really impressive instruments for the price range and some really professional instruments for just a little more.

I've been eyeballing the AE500 Archtop and some Seth's or 59's to drop in there to kick the attitude of the guitar up. It's a very "jazzy" guitar, the cleans on the bridge are nice and warm and the neck is open and airy sounding. Very cool stock pickups but not my 'cup of tea. It's also VERY loud when unplugged.

The TVL sig mod, however, is definantly a rock guitar...it's got that cool vintage vibe with a little bit a' modern nastiness thrown in. I'm also a fan of the control setup and the three pickups because when thrown together it just looks killer.

It's probably the only sig I'd ever consider buying because it doesn't have his name on it.

Salute Troy Van Leeuwen, you are not a pompous ass!

In My Head

Audio's kinda crappy. I imagine any tracks he recorded on 2005's Lullabies to Paralyze were either with the TYL Sig or those Yamaha AE Archtops he's so fond of using.

Re: Yamaha TvL sig model, worth $1000.00 ?

My advice would be to look for a used Gibson ES-135 with P-100's and swap them for P-90's. Granted they're single cuts but they're really nice guitars that can be had for about $800 used in a variety of colors.

I love mine, even with the P-100's, although P-90's are probable in the future.

Wow, thanx guys !

MMmmmm, semi-hollow with zero feedback at hi-gain sounds pretty awsome to me !
Although, i am a a low to med. gain player myself ! (it is good to know you can use this guitar with a RoadKing/Dual Rec if need be !
(...highest gain that i use is my Rat @ 12 o'clock or BD-2 @ 1 o'clock with a max'ed Micro Amp)

I also like the old morphed with the new feel of the F-holes.
I do not think any other semi could pull that off for me !
I also like the THREE P90 !!! ...and that sexy switshing system, ala Vintage Silvertones, see link:

Oh, and "Innocent_Bystander", i had my eye on a P90 ES-125 ever since i heard Bad to the Bone, by our vintage rocker, Mr. Thorogood !!!
BTW, i do love your 135 !!! SOooo sexy, that black PU's and Ferrari Red body ! . . . can you please tell me how your 135 differs from the 125's that i fancy ?

Thanx, and keep 'em comming !

Re: Yamaha TvL sig model, worth $1000.00 ?

I don't know much about ES-125's but two things off the top of my head are the 125 only has one pickup and the older models are thicker. It's probably twice as deep as an ES-135, I believe the older models also lack any cutaways.

As far as the newer thinner single cut style 125, I have no idea what the differences are.

Gibson. That Yamaha has cool things, and goofy things. But I prefer Gibson over Yamaha, regardless of the price.

Just my philosophy on life - I'd rather pay a lot for a great thing than pay a lot less for something not as good. That's not saying I'm gonna rush out and buy a Viper, but even so.

Re: Yamaha TvL sig model, worth $1000.00 ?

I was really interested in the TVL, and tried one as soon as my local stockist got it in. It played ok, and needed a setup, but sounded great. Like a huge strat with lots of air.

But the build quality was identical to a sub-US$500 yamaha semi they had in stock. I SEVERELY doubt the instrument I played was made in Japan. Unsurprisingly, there was no 'made in...' sticker to be found on the guitar. And it was super heavy.

Given that the price at my local store was even higher than US$1000, I passed.

Re: Yamaha TvL sig model, worth $1000.00 ?

That's on of my favorite sig. guitars by far. Troy is a hell of a player and that's one cool axe! I'd take that over a low level Gibson any day of the week, Yamaha guitars are A LOT better than most people give them credit for (atleast the higher end ones).

Re: Yamaha TvL sig model, worth $1000.00 ?

that is by far the hottest sig model in a while. And now lets get Josh Homme a signature model!!
