Re: Yet another new song by my Band, up for anyone who wants to listen...
Indulge an old man for a moment.
The intro put me in mind of Peter Gabriel 3 ("Melt"). Then, I caught a whiff of "Lodger" period David Bowie. Then, instead, I began to think of the British New Wave groups from the early Eighties who were influenced by Bowie - particularly Bauhaus. By the end, the melody and fuzz tones reminded me of Nirvana.
If the intro guitar were doubled by raspy saxophone and the bass guitar were absolutely smothered in Boss CE-1 style chorus, the track would sound like Magazine (apart from the vocals, of course).
Well, I am totally glad to indulge you "Old" man, haha...47 isn't "old" btw...And ya know, I think this review/critique/whatever this is, is probably the koolest one I've heard! So thank you.
I've actually never really listened to much Peter Gabriel, so I had to download some songs off melt to see what you were talking about there, haha...And am Glad I did, so thanks for that...But everything else...
Bowie (specifically 80's bowie) was a huge early influence on me, as was alot of British new wave.
My sister is 10 years older than me, so when I was in grade school, she was in highschool...She always used to take me everywhere with her and her friends when i was little...So all through my childhood I had ALOT of exposure to all the English new wave bands that she was obsessed with (Particularly, The Cure, Siouxie, Echo and the Bunny Men, The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, and Bauhaus). Plus all the 80's punk, and "Pop" she listened to (though she never listened to hair metal), Prince was actually the reason I wanted to start playing the guitar (Started playing at 8 years old), for what its worth.
I have never heard Magazine though...can't really seem to even find any clips on youtube...so I have no idea there, haha.
Also obviously, being a teenager in the 90's...its sort of impossible for Nirvana to not have had at least a little influence on me...So yeah.
But, anyways. Thanks! Dunno if that was meant as a compliment, but I'm definitely taking it that way, haha.
