Yet another "which pup for me" thread.

Hi everyone.
I know you all must get tired of these type of questions, but I'm totally confused on choices here.
I'm building a Warmoth dual cut L.paul. Semi hollow(routed) Mahogany body. Mahog. neck (25 1/2), Rosewood finger board.
I play old english type blues ( Mayall, Peter Green,Clapton ect.) My favorite sound is Clapton in John Mayall (Have you heard?) and Clapton in the Cream (Spoonfull).
I bet you'll all suggest the '59 but I think I'd like to get something ..say..one step hotter. A lot of the sound bites offered here sound like the tone control is turned 1/2 way down ( to me anyway)!
Oh ya! I forgot....I use a master vol. 100 watt tube amp!
So..Go ahead fire away!!
Thanx all

Actually, the Seth's will get you closest to Clapton's sound on the Bluesbreaker albums and the 59's will be closest to Cream era Clapton. That being said, I like the PG's better than either the Seth's or 59's in a Paul.

It sounds like you are in the market for a set of pearly gates. Since you say it sounds like the tone is turned halfway down on the sound clips, the Pearly gates bridge will work well. It is Hotter than a 59 and also, it is bright.

Stew welcome

He is is my 2 cents...in the Bluesbreakers Clapton used the 58 LP...this guitar had PAF pups...By the time of Cream it was mostly the SG and a 64 335, both of these guitars have PAT# pups...this has been discussed several times, and for tons of details you should do a search, short answer is this...If you want a PAF get a Seth Lover, if you want a PAT# get a 59. If you want a 59 with a little extra kick, check out a Duncan Custom(SH-5), lots of people will disagree due to the ceramic magnet in the Duncan Custom(SH-5), but it is much smaller magnet, and the tone is very much PAF with a little extra kick ion the pants. A Custom 5(SH-14) is also along the lines of PAF's but more high output.

Good Luck
