Hi guys, please help if you can....

Im after a Single Coil pick similar to the Dimarzio YJM for the neck position.

What Seymour Dunc would give similar properties ?

I want a nice bright single coil tone with plenty of sustain and with next to no hum

I tend to use the single coil neck position for soloing alot.

Thanks guys...

I'm guessing the classic stack plus would probably be the most similar. Supposedly, they have a good vintage sound and also the stacked hum-bucking like the YJM.

Re: YJM Dimarzio....SD equivelent ?

I was told that the classic stack was close to the HS3, I tried them and they were good, but not similar. There is nothing close to the HS3/YJM except the HS3/YJM.

Re: YJM Dimarzio....SD equivelent ?

The HS3 HS2 and YJM are probably focused on mids ( modern tone ) , whereas the Classic stack should have a broader range , with less mids , more highs and maybe lows ( vintage tone ).

You'd probably be better off getting the YJM or HS-3 than trying to find something similar.

They're 4 conductor, so you can use them with Duncans without needing to modify them. There are plenty of guys here who have Duncans and DiMarzios in the same guitar and they could tell you how to wire them up and ensure that you won't have any problems.

HS-3s rock. They sound awesome.

I have one in the neck of my charvel, and it sounds great. Good clarity under gain, amazing solo sound and the best: good cleans.

I would get one if I was you, you must notice that they are VERY low output.

Re: YJM Dimarzio....SD equivelent ?

I'm not a huge HS fan. The HS series is a great example of the byproduct of a bottom coil. To me they sound exactly like stacks. They have all the phasing and compression of a typical stack design. They do hold up well under gain, but I still prefer a true single under gain. The new Classic Stack Plus follows the newer trend to make that bottom coil as transparent as possible. It's trying to sound as if it's not there at all. The closest Duncan to the HS3 would probably be the older Classic Stacks. But even then, those have magnets going through both coils, and the Dimarzios use "half magnets" that stop at the top coil. I always thought that was interesting, because you're basically sending magnetic field through the top half of the bottom coil anyway. So some of the coil is magnetized and some isn't. I've never figured out how that benefits them. Maybe it doesn't and that's why I don't like them. Seriously if choosing the old Classic Stack or the HS3 I would take the CS every time. The CS+ is just another step in the right direction IMO, so maybe I'm not the right guy to ask. Why am I posting in this thread again?

Why don't we ask the question a bit different...

What Duncan S-C is good for an yngwie like tone?

Re: YJM Dimarzio....SD equivelent ?

Actually I tried a Classic stack neck ( old version with alnico 2) in the middle position and I was pleasantly surprised how clear , defined , biting and full it was . It made me think immediatly to YJM's tone ! :fingersx:

I haven't tried one personally, but the Hot s-c has a pronounced mid-range and might be able to get an Yngwie like tone without having to use a tube screamer (depending on the amp).
