Yngwie Loaded Pickguard set volume pot?

Hi I am using Yngwie Loaded Pickguard set on my strat and recently the volume pot is getting abit scratchy sounding. To replace it, I need to know if it is a 500k or a 250k pot that comes stock with the pickguard set?

Please help Thanks in advance.

This should be 250k, and it should be labeled somewhere on the pot. This pickguard uses the Yngwie Speed Pot for volume. You might try spraying some contact cleaner, like Deoxit, into the pot- this usually clears it up as well.

I have the same set and mine is 250k. Personally I don't particularly like the feel of the high speed pot even though it seems to be a high quality pot. Just a preference thing. If I replace it I will go with CTS 250k and if you'll look around you can find them with tighter tolerance levels when you buy. A friend of mine likes the CTS line made for Angela instruments, for example.

Okay will do that.

Yes I know what you mean. I am still considering whether to stick with the Yngwie pot or the CTS. Though I got a feeling I might end up with a CTS for that tight tolerance feel.

BTW, I noticed that the tone knob at the very bottom is not wired straight from the factory. Is that just a dummy pot or a real pot sitting there but just not wired up?

Hmm. Do you mean it's got no wires going to it at all? Mine is completely wired up with both tones IIRC.

FWIW, Yngwie doesn't use any tone controls on his. That would drive me crazy! I need my tone controls.

There are wires going to it but it's got no control. The last time my luthier told me that's normal. But I might consider having it wired up for tone control over the bridge pickup.

Have you checked to see if the first tone (closest to the volume) controls tone for the neck and the second tone controls tone for the middle? If so, that IS standard. There are several ways to do it if you want a tone control on the bridge pickup; in fact by adding one jumper on the 5 way switch you can have the second tone pot controlling the middle AND bridge pickup if you want it that way. You can also have that second tone control affect the bridge only. Check the main SD site for diagrams.

Re: Yngwie Loaded Pickguard set volume pot?

Hi...

I just bought 3 of these at 250k for my Fender USA YJM, Fury loaded strat.

What size capacitor do I need? Or can I reuse the stock capacitor that Fender used?

For YJM I use:

500K for volume & treble bleed
500K for neck & .022 cap
250K for bridge & .047 cap

Works very well
