You can buy Slash's guitar

Slash owned, toured and signed, but doesn't look played much. Seems like a nice Les Paul, but same can be had for 1/10th the price.

Of all the guitars he owns/has owned, he let this go. I bet it’s gem... ;)

To be fair, at that price, you ain't paying for its tone or playability... :)

Also, if you have access to the guitars that he does, my guess is his "turds" are probably a 9 or 10 out of 10 to most of us.

Look close enough and you will see that the cap is not even centered on the guitar!!!! The caps centerline is a little too far to the right. for $40k, the centerline of the guitar better at least be correct. I don't care who owned it, Jimmy page himself even, I will not buy crap guitars. Gibson just happens to make crap guitars.

Did you see the recent SG that Robert Baker ( youtube ) got!!! Holy hell, it looked like a file got in a fight with a hack saw on the fretboard of that thing. It's not hard Gibson, make a good guitar and people will gladly shell out the dough. If this SG is any indication of the impact it may have on Mesa, OMG, I can't even....

You could buy like 16 brand new signature Slash LPs for that... although I’m not sure what that says about the prices of either.

Nice of them to throw in free postage though.

I know this scheme intimately. It's actually a income strategy for artists (not as much in Slash's time)

But if you are a known artist, you play tons of guitar a few times (even just to rehearse or at home and some artists not at all) to later auction them or to be fair donate them for charity auctions too -but rest assured, they are not their #1 through #5 guitars -they are most often guitars for creating this income stream. I don't think this one was originally played for this reason, because internet auctions were not a thing then -which has made this market so huge -but even so, Slash toured with dozens of guitars EVERY tour -there are likely 100 LPs that can make this claim -but they will eek these into the public slowly so as to not make the demand fall anf create huge value.

It seems like a good way to provide some income during the pandemic when touring is cancelled. Sell a guitar, make as much as your average Guns N Roses concert goer makes in a year.

I’m sure that in some circumstances (especially touring abroad), it makes more financial sense to buy new gear (or have the manufacturer give it to you) for the tour then sell it off afterwards.

Gibson make crappy guitars? Do you even own one?

I don't even think Slash is paying for those guitars. I am sure his deal with Gibson is that he gets what he wants.

I’m pretty sure it works like that for him, yeah; I remember a video interview where a guitarist walked into a store on a whim and bought a guitar, and said that his rep at whichever company he had a deal with basically told him he was crazy, and they would have got it for him. I’m pretty sure that person was not Slash-level either.
