You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Here's a hypothetical for you to ponder...

You find a bottle on the beach. You give it a rub, as we do, and a purple haze emanates from the bottle. A Genie, bearing a striking resemblance to Jimi Hendrix, appears and offers you two (2) choices, of which you may only choose one (1).

You have the choice to inherit your favourite guitar player's guitar collection. These guitars will be added to what you already have.

Or you can inherit his skills as a player, and just one of his guitars. These skills will be added to what you already have.

Which would you choose?

N.B. If you ask for both, you will be killed with death and assigned to a band in the afterlife with Karen Carpenter on drums and Kirk Hammet's wah sound as your only option.

Give serious answers, your first or considered response, or amuse us with your whimsy and shenanigans.

Cheers.................................... wahwah

Even though I'm a huge Gary Rossington fan, id prolly take Steve Gaines' skills and his black LP.. was listening to some of his stuff earlier..... wow.. bout all I can say.. lol

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

I'm skilled enough to not bore myself, but I'll never have enough money to get all of the guitars I'd ever want.

Jimmy Page guitar collection, here I come!

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Skills and one guitar. With skills, I can earn enough to buy the collection later.

I'm not quite sure about that. Incredibly gifted guitarists are everywhere, but that doesn't guarantee that they make enough money to live the kind of life that would allow one to amass a great guitar collection.

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

I'd take the collection, but only because having someone else's skills would seem to limit me to only being a clone of that other person - I think I'd rather be me with all the inherent limitations I possess.

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

I don't know. At first it was obvious, but getting anothers skills feels like kind of cheating. I'd prefer to find my own way. Maybe it's the guitars then? Could Jimi throw in some lessons?

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

No right or wrong answers with this one, just your answers.

Very interesting point some have raised about inheriting the skills. Let's refine it by saying you will have the skills, but you will still have your brain, your mind and your heart. They will just be added to you. Just as all those juicy guitars from their collection will be added to yours should you choose that option. Decisions, decisions...

And no, Jimi can't stick around, he's got an apple to bite into...

The choice to inherit your favourite guitar player's guitar collection.

I don't believe there's much worse than playing or sounding exactly like someone else. I mean, I have my influences that may or may not be obvious, but I don't want to absolutely sound like another player altogether.

I've recently converted to playing short scale guitars exclusively, so owning Slash's arsenal should be a fun experience! :smokin:

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Playing makes me much happier so ultimately i would take skills...

But if i sit down and think about it the person I would take skills from sure wouldnt be the same person that I would take the collection from.

In that case, I'll take the additional skills. It's not like I need any more guitars (whether I want more is a different question).

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Easy.

Marty Friedman's skills and I don't really care which of his guitars I get because that really doesn't matter after I can play like Marty Friedman, does it?

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Should have said, Alex Lifeson's skills and probably the black PRS CE22/24 he was playing a lot of the time on the R30 tour

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

I have more than one guitar already, another couple aren't going to make any significant difference to my musical ability . . . BUT . . . If I had a lot of guitars previously owned by a famous guitar player I could probably sell 'em for enough to retire off of and focus on playing all day to develop my own skills. So . . . I guess . . . guitars?

Re: You Find A Bottle On The Beach....

Thank you for asking. I'll have David Gilmour's collection, please. Loadsa Blackguards!

Of course, the coolest answer to this collection in a bottle question would have been Andy Summers.
