T'ain't no such thing as a Fender '62 Telecaster Custom. The correct name would be a Custom Telecaster.

On a real one, Leo was good enough to put the proper name right there on the headstock. :grumble:

I had (and sold) one of these Jap LH '62 reissues. Not a bad guitar in its way, but the stock pups had to go as they were crap. I do regret selling it, but there's no way its worth the $ it got apart from the fact that someone is willing to pay that amount. I have put together a Tele from parts for about $600Aus which is just as good, but with duncans in it already.

I can't remember if Fender Japan's website lists a '62 custom... I know they do a '72 custom which I am interested in.....

FWIW, I've had a couple of the older Fender Japan 72 Tele Customs that sold in the US and played a couple of the newer ones that aren't meant to hit our shores while overseas. Just for the sake of comparisons (I know that's not the model in question), the older ones were nice but nothing special, while the newer ones were just amazing. Better finish, better wood, smoother pots, etc. I don't know what's up with the big quality change, but I bet that one in the auction would make one hell of a Pepsi Challenge with a good USA, all other things equal.
